How are some people writing us off with this Spezza injury?

The management of the Ottawa Senators has done a great job at making sure we have depth!

The Turris trade (for a solid second-line center) was made to power through times like these! This team is still very capable of making the playoffs. Remember, Spezza was Turris' age when he established himself as a PPG... I'm not saying Turris will turn into a PPG player - but give him a chance.

The CGY team that went to the SCF in '03 was lead by Craig Conroy at center. -.- We will be okay with Kyle Turris at center for a few weeks.

Exactly. We have a TON of depth and obviously you can't count on Jim O'Brien to light it up all the time, and there might be some regression, but as long as we have EK and Andy we'll be in every game..

I prefer to look at the positives:
  • This will let us see how the team deals with adversity;
  • Spezza's absence will make the team play a tighter, playoff-type game;
  • If the team wins without Spezza or even advances to the second round or conference finals without him, then...maybe we walk away from him when his contract expires and give that money to our kids.

    We'll be fine! We are in 4th at the moment and not likely to regress with us playing weak teams like Carolina and Montreal in the next week...

What is wrong with people. Why do they keep suggesting getting rid of Spezza. If we make the playoffs and get past a round or two imagine what we could do with a player of Spezza's caliber in the line-up.

Gah.

The Trade Spezza reflex might be suppressed for now, but it's never really been eliminated. SensFanDan and Don Brennan would still love to get rid of him.

Come on guys...it sucks that we may lose Spezza for a long period of time but he's been putting off this surgery for years so he could help our team. If he's finally at the point that he's got to get his disc fused then we should be happy that, long term, he'll be healthier.

Also, what's with all the doom and gloom? What happened to "I ain't even mad?". We're in the middle of a rebuild and I, for one, am super excited to see more of Zibby and possibly Stone and Da Costa. Plus I really think Turris is ready to step it up. That play last night with him, Alfie and Wier where Alfie hit the crossbar reminded me of a Pizza Line play.

For fun, I assume Murray will be keeping his options open if the right player came available. Getzlaf already mentionned - who else would you want on the list that would fit our need and would be legitimately available?

Getzlaf, Vermette maybe?, Laich can play centre, Bryan Little? what about Lecavalier?

Some of these guys would cost dearly (Getzlaf, Lecavalier)
