they want to fix it now so it isn't a problem down the road or less of a problem than letting it go.

LOL you guys are funny it's not good at all in anyway but other players will have to pick it up and TBH i don't see a lot of power houses in the east right now. other teams are gonna have trouble like Lupul and Hartnell and next time crosby gets bumped lightly infront of the net and he dies.

i think we are still very much in this for a lower seed playoff spot, but even then I'm not worried he may be back in the beginning of April... radio thinks 8 weeks.

Isn't two months like half the season?

So Spezza gets injured.
As long as they don't say next he only has a good +/- because of goaltending .

Anyway ... ruh-oh ... time to see who will sink or swim. Possibly a big chance for DaCosta if Regin struggles. Hopefully Murray doesn't rush into any trades, he will have to overpay as everyone will know he's desperate.

More then half the season. If Spezza is out for exactly two months, he'll be back on April 1st, and the season ends on the 27th.

At least this is a good season to suck? Insane top 5 and only 48 games. Win-win...-lose.

PROS:
- We have a glut of young forwards, and this will give management a chance to resolve who's good and who's not. Basically, this season-long asset evaluation will help set-the-table for Murray's summer trading.
- It's a rebuilding year, so a good draft pick in a deep draft will be money.

CONS:
- It will be tough to make the playoffs.
- Alfie's stats and chance to play in the playoffs will suffer.
- This doesn't bode well for Spezza's long-term health since back problems are chronic. We all pretty much assumed he had put the injuries behind him.
- Bingo is going to be icing a beer-league team.

2 months would put him returning at the end of March or very early April which would give him 8-10 games to get ready for the playoffs assuming we're in a position. That's IF the recovery and rehab goes well.

Going to be some major adversity to overcome but I think the boys can do it.

Who cares about Alfie's stats? Honestly?

Bingo being a beer league team means they did their job and developed players... Unless you expect more than developing NHLers out of them?

I've been hearing the draft is amazing every year for the last 5... NHL will be loaded with talent soon

last years draft fell real short really not great, all around 2011 seems to actually be pretty good IMO so far.

this year has a lot of high potential centers though. which was not the case last year.

Well if we make the playoffs Spezza should be in tip top shape

If we don't make the playoffs we might get a good pick which is a little bit of a consolation since this draft is apparently quite a bit deeper than last year's

Unless we got top 5, I don't see there being much to be excited about. With how this team is rolling right now, I fully expect them to still be a playoff team. They'll struggle at times but they should be able to overcome the loss of one top player. There's still a lot of depth on this team.

The more minutes he plays the better he looks. Karlsson is just one of those players.

So whats the long term option for the second line center slot?

Zibanejad? Regin? Regin has looked like utter **** this season, and Zibby is still young. I'd like to see what the rookie can do there though

As I said earlier, Da Costa in a 2nd line role might not be a bad try.

It would mean someone responsible on the wing with Silfverberg and Da Costa, not sure if Gui is the guy.

Maybe move Greening up, and Gui down with Neil and Smith.

Da Costa, I'd assume. Da Costa + Silfverberg = Established Chemistry.

IMHO, this is all part of the TROLL. We get into the playoffs, Spezza is healthy and at his peak and we win the silver cup.

Greening looked pretty good with Spezza and Michalek when he had the chance. I wonder if he could replicate that magic with Turris in the middle. Could have Alfie on the second with silfverberg and whoever in the middle. Spread some of the wealth around.
