Among them, not a single one scored 70 points this year and most of these are on powerhouse teams.

On that list alone, which is comprised of players sorted using a meaningless stat, datsyuk and backes are better then Turris. Add to that pathetic looking list, there are literally dozens upon dozens of better players then 70 point Turris.

Of course they are better right now, I'm talking about a 25 to 30% improved Kyle Turris.

You can **** on my stats if you want and it's easy to do that when you offer no competing analysis but my point is that you can't put the same offensive expectations on Turris that you do on Spezza. They play completely different styles. The end result is that Turris is very strong defensively while Spezza is an offensive leader in this league.

Among the people that play Turris' style and role, 70 points is a wildly inappropriate expectation. 40-55 points for him would be very good if he keeps up his excellent defensive play.

Don't worry, some people understand the demonstration you just made. And yes, Turris is already very responsible defensively, despite being only 22 y/o. Teams don't score very often when he is on the ice, and yes he spends much more time on the ice than most guys on that list. He is everywhere on the ice, his positionning is almost flawless

Give me a Kyle Turris 55 points 2-way 2nd line center anyday of the week. That's what I think Turris can do very soon.

A 70 points Turris with that kind of 2-way game would be Selke worthy and approaching Datsyuk level in terms of impact on his team (not necessarily in dangling)

Oh, by the way, look what I just found :

Ottawa scored 135 goals when Erik Karlsson is on the ice. That's the most in the NHL, more than any player (even Malkin and Stamkos). Spezza was 8th

http://www.nhl.com/ice/playerstats.h...Name=plusMinus

AND... the opposite teams only scored 85 goals when Karlsson was on the ice... so a +50 overall... If Karlsson doesn't get the Norris, Ottawa gets screwed once again

Shea Weber was +56 but scored 29 less points than Karlsson

PS : And in case someone replies with power play goals against, teams only scored 7 more PP goals on Nashville while Weber was on the ice than vs Karlsson

Well he was great as a number 1 centreman against the Islanders in that game when Spezza was out (I believe it was last year)

Time to see if he can do it consistently

Turris is a Gem, he just needs to get his F/O percentage up.

Dudes going to be a dangerous second line center next season. His Play off play was amazing, guy was our definition to our peskyness, he never quited, and we just saw that in the last game. This was an amazing developement year for him. His defensive play got a whole lot better, logged first line minutes and played first line competiton, now he can do play weaker competition on the second line. his hands are just amazing, if spezza teaches him some of his moves all the better, my favourite moment was when he went around letang , would have loved it if he scored.

im gonna go out and take a risk and say his point totals are gonna be close to spezza's next season.

he's going to score in the low to mid 30's for goals and 40 assists around a mid 70 point player ( witch will prove his 3rd overall draft position and throw those who called him a bust in the trash )

My prediction is
33 - 43 - 76

for his point totals

He's far from perfect, but the the criticism he faced through most of this year was unfair given the circumstances.

Good two-way player, and clutch as hell. Glad to have him on the team.

Tough year production wise for Kyle Turris

But he was fantastic in the playoffs and that's great in my book

Love the kid!

I appreciate Turris's output but I just don't feel he's really playing as hard as he could. During the regular season he seemed like he was just kind half-hearting it. Hard to argue with his playoff numbers but the puck just never seems to settle down for him and in my opinion he just kind of flails about aimlessly. I don't understand how he can play so horribly but lead the team in scoring. I'm waiting for him to develop into a more complete player which I hope MacLean can impress on him.

Ive been one of his harshest critics all year for his soft play. He stepped up bigtime in the playoffs but still needs time to mature into a man. Hopefully a little more physicality will come in time...

But solid playoff at both ends of the rink...

Turret have always stepped it up a notch in the playoff, even in his time with Phoenix. But yeah hopefully he can build on more strenght this offseason and be even moore dangerous next year for ya guys.

Agreed.

Turris has 15 points in 21 career playoff games, and in two series (this year with the Sens, 2010-11 with Phoenix) you could make a strong argument that he was his team's best postseason player.

That's a real strong compliment, which bodes well for Turris's future, IMO. It's clear that this kid finds another gear in the playoffs and has the ability to raise his game when it counts, now we just need to see some more regular-season consistency.

50 point 2way C that you can match up against the other teams best line. If you told me we were getting that when we traded for him I'd have done cartwheels. We've got him locked up on the cheap too!

Also crazy that he lead our team in points on only a 50 point pace over a full season.

Turris is a better player now than he was at this point last year by leaps and bounds. Another summer of bulking up and a full year behind Spezz will be great for him.

Players in the league who step it up when it matters most and are better in the playoffs than in regular season are important. I suspect Turris will never be wonderful enough in a regular season to quiet his critics, but those same critics will disappear during playoff time.

Still waiting to see how he produces with a healthy Spezza. I think he'd be great in the 2C slot carrying some defensive responsibilities while contributing a bit offensively. He's no Bergeron or Toews, but he still projects to be a good two-way 2C.

Toews has been pretty awful in the playoffs this season.
