This is where i stand. The concept of getting an NHL version of what Seth Jones is to junior is extremely exciting. Unfortunately, some times defense are drafted as high end prospects and flounder.
I'll just say that what happened to Erik Johnson scares me.
If leafs are somehow drafting 1st overall i hope its Mackinnon.
I'm not too educated on draft prospects, but what's the deal with Curtis Lazar? He seems to drop in every ranking there is. Is it just because of lack of offensive production or is he not that good of a prospect?
I don't think hockey IQ is a problem with Jones, it's maybe not elite but it's very good. I think one legitimate criticism is that he could stand to clear the crease a little better with the size he has.

something easily taught
IMO you cant go wrong with either mackinnon or Jones, itll be team needs that decides #1

His offensive production has been weak for a top prospect. I expect his production and ranking will improve through the second half of the season and playoffs.
This kid is going to play a lot of games in the NHL at a pretty high level. Whoever drafts him is going to be very lucky. I hope it's the Oilers.
If this is how it's going to be in Draft day somebody will be extremely happy getting Lehkonen in second round.
Guy just broke rookie record in his home team Kalpa. Played against top finnish players (and some NHL players) but i guess WJC matters that much cause he wasnt that good in there.
But remember he is -95 born, lets see how he fares in u18 comp against players his own age.
I may be a bit biased having gone to so many Moosehead games, but I'd go with MacKinnon at 1st. This kid just oozes skill and will. I can't remember a shift he's played where he didn't create something from nothing. Drouin is special too, but MacKinnon is on a slightly higher level.
Jones, I see Jones as the next Pronger, so leaning to MacKinnon says alot.

If he gets to play there. Same thing with Tappara and Barkov, what if their teams are playing the semifinals?
I'd take Nathan Mackinnon personally. I love Seth Jones' size and mobility, I Just think his hockey IQ is not where it needs to be.
But man, whoever gets Drouin, Barov, and Lindholm at 3-5 should consider themselves lucky!
Based on what I saw at the WJC I would take Seth Jones, but of course it depends on team needs. Jones probably just lack experience, give him a few years and he'll develop that hockey IQ.
Frederick Gauthier is about as interesting of a pick as this draft will have. I could see him going Top 15 for sure.
Seth Jones over MacKinnon is the same Hedman over Tavares, Murray over Yakupov, Doughty over Stamkos, etc. stuff we see every year. Usually the top ranked defender against the top ranked skater is a battle that goes until the last minute when it was clear the whole time that the top forward was the right pick to make. I'll believe Jones over Nathan when it happens.
I think Jones is clearly ahead of all of those defenseman. Even Doughty. The guy has Chris Pronger potential. People said Hedman had that potential but it wasn't fair to him because he never had the offensive side of the game down. Jones is clearly one of the best two way defenseman we've seen since Doughty in the draft.
And agreed on Gauthier. I have never watched him play but from the sounds of it he's the kind of guy who could sneak into the top 10. Would love for the Oilers to get a guy like that.

Struggled at the start of the year and has been very good (PPG I think in the last 20 games) since then. If scouts saw what he can do from the playoffs last year they'd be smart to have him ranked higher.
surprised that Burakowsky is at 14. He was pretty bad so far this year and he is dropping in a lot of the other lists. For example Craig Button has him at 40.
I hope the Klimchuk can work his was into a first round pick. The kid has slowly been improving with the Pats. 55 points in 50 games on a bad young team currently on a 8 game skid is pretty good. Maybe I'm biased, but he's got talent.
He's a long ways away from that. Scouts will and do love his tools; Big man, good/powerful skater, good shot.
But what he showed at the SSS and WJC leaves alot to be desired. He either:
A) Is incredibly selfish
or
B) Really, really lacks hockey sense
i don't think he is selfish i just think as you said he lacks hockey sense and he doesn't have the best vision. i don't think players who drive the net like that are selfish
