Short term solution until Shero can make a trade for the top 6.

From what I've read about him, it's the opposite.

I imagine he'll put up points if you stick him in your Top 6, but considering he'll be playing with Crosby/Malkin, that's not saying much. I wouldn't call him a "steal" by any sense, since he's actually much closer to the "bust" label than that. He's really more of a Keith Aucoin player, IMO. Great AHL producer that simply couldn't transition his game to the NHL well.

But if he just needed a change of scenary, wish him the best.
Thanks for posting your thoughts.

I like this move as well, try it out but this is probably Shero's last try before a move

Probably will use Tangradi in a trade now if he has the chance

Bylsma says Boychuk could get work on Malkin's line.

From the sounds of it, he could be playing tonight depending on Kunitz's health or in place of someone else.

Actually the immediate analog who comes to mind is ... Brett Sterling? Fair comparison? A guy with really good hockey sense and skills but just too small to cut it in the bigs? Maybe this version will find a niche and stick with the team; time to be optimistic before I get a hockey-ulcer.

The whole purpose of waivers is to give the waivee a chance to stay in the NHL. You can't pick someone on waivers and send him down, it would defeat the purpose. If he could be sent down, he would still be playing for Carolina

They've already said Kunitz is playing, and I doubt Boychuk plays tonight.

Kind of happy about this. I just hope we don't **** around and give him a solid chance right out of the gate.

Having seen 0 games from Boychuck and having read vast reams of data in this thread I feel comfortable pulling the double greater than sign here.

Boychuk >> Daigle

Poor bahstid... he's been in our organization all of 10 minutes and we're already harshing on the kid. Drafted in 2008 after all. Just a young buck!

I feel the exact opposite. I think the jump to the NHL is a bit too big for him in terms of being a scorer, but I think he'd be a perfect fit on Sutter's wing. I believe they've played some together (maybe even in the WHL), so there is precedent.

I like this move mainly to give the third line a new look. As I mentioned in another thread, Cooke and Kennedy were perfect for Staal but Sutter needs a different look. Hopefully, Boychuk pans out and enables us to start weeding out some of the grizzled grinders, starting with Cooke.

Hey maybe they can do with him what they did with another struggling former 1st pick that they picked up cheap in Niskanen. Def worth a shot at least IMO.

I don't mind that they are gonna try this kid with Malkin first, Bylsma has demonstrated that he has a great understanding of which players play well with each other. Really has his finger on the pulse of the lines.

Boychuk is a better skater than Sterling or Aucoin, so there may be hope for him.

If he doesn't work out, oh well, nothing was risked.

Make NO mistake, Boychuk was acquired because he plays Dan Bylsma hockey. In other words, temper your expectations.
