I love Murray to death and agree that there is a role for him here, but overall I think the Sharks would be better off trading him for some scoring help while he still has some value.

I never get into SNOG's or anything like that, but now with the Sharks the sole team in the NHL without a loss of any kind, I'm wondering if the hockey gods have a massive beatdown in store for us very soon. Hockey gods never let the Sharks get too much positive attention in the hockey media, and also the hockey gods love how the fanbase, especially people on here, overreact to a loss. We're over due for a drubbing that leads to 4 threads about massive changes that need to be made, i.e.

Threads that will come with a loss:

1.) Should TMac be fired and replaced with Larry Robinson? (To be fair, I'm likely to start this if the Sharks are likely going to be a 1 seed and ask if DW should pull a Lou Lam circa 2000)

2.) Why do we have 3 centers on one line?

3.) The all encompassing trade Murray + Clowe thread

and of course

4.) GET RID OF MARLEAU, HE SUCKS

Im still big on Murray. I consider him more of a bottom 6 D, but his play is good. And he comes up big with the hits, and his presence on the ice is obvious. Opposing players know this, and I guarantee it makes a difference in how the game is played.
He has his place on the team for sure.

He isn't solid on the PK, he's average. All he does is provide a big body to block shots. He isn't great with his stick and he isn't mobile, both of which are needed if you want to be aggressive.
I have nothing against keeping Murray on the roster. The only reason I partly want him traded is because he's potentially taking a roster spot from Demers or Braun since TMac loves him. If he's guaranteed to be the 7th, I have no qualms about keeping him. Depth at D is going to be more important than usual this season and I'd rather increase the Sharks' chances at a deep playoff run than just trade him for a pick.

When was the last time Murray had a big hit? Opposing players know that he's a big hitter and they've adjusted over the seasons. Instead of trying to skate by him, they'll chip the puck and skate around him. Especially with all holding/interference calls this season, Murray isn't going to be able to hold them off and let his D partner get the puck like he's done in the seasons prior.
If anything, Stuart and Demers have been more physical than Murray in the last few seasons. Stuart's hit on Landeskog and Demers' hit on Brown and Cole last season are the types of hits that change the momentum. Murray isn't mobile enough to do those.

Been quite a while since I posted, but I just don't understand all the Murray hate of late. Okay, he's not a top pairing puck moving d-man, but he is still a major physical presence and plays the PK incredibly well. He's very solid along the boards and great at muscling pucks out of corner scrums. As of this moment, he leads all of our D-men in hits, is second in blocked shots and has the fewest giveaways - just 1. The Sharks are a much better team when he's in the lineup as evidenced by the sub 500 record when he's out. Can someone please enlighten me on what exactly about Murray they don't like?

His lack of mobility has become a liability at times. I think he's slotted where he belongs but there is no question hes lost a step.
