The TANK Thread

I don't think it's too early for this. The Avs as they are cannot generate any offence at all and it looks to be that way for a long time.

I'm hoping this picks up steam as the season goes on, but basically this thread is for discussing how bad the team is, how badly you want Nathan Mackinnon on this team, and the like.

Man the hockey gods did well considering they gave us a GM named Sherman and a team that has fantastic ability to tank.

They looked bad from day 1 IMO. That LA game bounced in the Avs favor and Columbus actually outshot the Avs.

I'm on board.

Since many fans around here feel this Organization is healthy and going in the right direction, and that Sherman has set us up well for the future, since the Oilers' model is the one to follow, i'm on board!!! Lets get that #1 pick!!!

In 2, 3, maybe 4 years the Oilers will be a Powerhouse for sure, and 3 or 4 years after that it will be our turn.

Until then, we can eat all the ******** about saving money and capspace for when we are ready, so we can pay all our RFA, as long as they are on board with our bridge contract offers.

Looking forward to 2018!

Ugh. Not going to lie, I have limited interest in seeing this team drafting top-5 again.

That being said, there's enough talent on the Avalanche roster that they shouldn't be this mediocre. A coaching and/or GM change after four years would be a welcome change.

The avs are going to have to get the next 4 top 3 picks to rebuild since SoS, factor, duchene, and probably anyone valued will be long gone.

Duchene and Mackinon would be such a great 1-2 punch. If we re-sign O'reilly than Jones makes more sense. If not trade staz/o'reilly for d and replace Sacco/PROFIT?

I'm hoping that doesn't happen. If we draft Mackinnon, fire Sacco, and sign some decent FAs, suddenly we are a good team again. It all comes down to ownership wanting to spend.

Give up that dream. Kroenke's won't spend money on the avs ever again.

Any fan outside of denver like myself might as well just latch on to the geographically closest team as their new favorite team and not look back or just bandwagon some other team. Being an avs fan is going to give you more misery and heartbreak than any woman ever will.

The worst part in all this is that the Avs have 20 players under contract next year... only Hejduk, Kobasew, O'Byrne and Bordeleau UFAs.. no RFAs

If the Avs only win 1 more game by the end of the upcoming 4 game home-stand, I start selling.

Everyone must go... of the 44 on the Avs roster, I only keep

Landeskog
Duchene
O'Reilly
McGinn
Sgarbossa
Hishon
Heard
Connolly

Johnson
Barrie
Elliott
Siemens

Varlamov
Giguere
Aittokallio
Patterson
Millan
Pickard

If Lando stays out for significant time and ORLY doesn't sign... well yes. Tank for Jones I guess?

The Sherman tank is known as the fastest WW2 tank, a sign?

Not, Sherman speed was around 40 mph, while Soviet BT-7 could go up to 86 mph

I'm not ready to throw in the towel yet, but it is getting awfully close. If we can't get to 15 points by game 15, I think we really need to start thinking about shutting it down. I figure to make the playoffs it will probably take 54-56 points. If we are at 15 points by then, it would still take a 20-13 (not counting OTL to keep it simple) which would be near impossible from the looks of it, but a long hot streak still makes it possible.

If this season turns out to be a loss, the only players I would deem untouchable are:

Landeskog
ROR (because I think Stastny should be traded if we throw in the towel)
Duchene
PAP
McGinn
Hejduk (loyalty)
Downie
McLeod
Olver
Sgarbossa
Smith
Bourke

Johnson
Wilson
Barrie/Elliott (don't mind if we trade one of the two in a package to improve the defense)
Siemens
Beaupre

Varlomov
Giggy (I think he is a good presence for Varly still)
Pickard
Aittokallio
Millan/Patterson (one can be traded)

The players that I think should absolutely be traded (if this season is in fact lost):

Stastny (can bring in a young, high potential defensemen, and assuming ROR is signed)

O'Byrne (pending UFA, good value, and obviously not in our long-term plans)
SOB (really is doing us no good and eating cap space, could have value as a #5 or 6 somewhere)
Zanon (already worn out his welcome IMO, he has been terrible overall)

it's true that watching a team, who has a chance to finish last and draft first overall is not fun. But on the bright side if you take for granted that it's only a 48 games season, it makes it less painful .

As for the coaching and GM move , i think that it's been obvious for a long time now that Sacco has to go . As for Sherman , in my book, he's making a good job ever since he's with us .
