Can confirm Jason Spezza has elected to have surgery for his back injury. Not sure how long he will be out or extent. #Sens
Big loss for the Sens if it is anything major. Not sure how long someone has to be out for back surgery.

So I was looking around various cap sites (just curious about other teams) and I saw that Yashin's buyout lasts until the end of the 2014-2015 season. I'm sure I knew this at some point, but must have forget. At least I can laugh about something this morning.

Secretly wish the Rangers weren't playing tonight so I could watch the Sabres/Bruins game. There's a game that should be on national TV tonight.

Maybe I should pick up John Scott in fantasy for today hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Eh, nah. I just picked up Erixon... Have no one I can really drop for one night of John Scott. Oh well.

if they're still using last years standings then I guess they picked him up right before the Rangers could?

Boychuck probably isn't worth a damn anyways but I'm never really excited to see division rivals pick up other players

That Sabres-Bruins game tonight is going to have some fireworks. I really hope the Sabres take it to them both physically and on the scoreboard.

The thing with PIT is that you can have some pretty mediocre wings with Crosby/Malkin and they turn into all stars. Especially against us for some reason lol.

Are Bettman and Daly serious? Their boy Jamison wasted everyone's time. 113 day lockout and now Jamison doesn't have a pot to **** in. If the Kings sale is approved to the Seattle group. The NHL should consider Seattle. The new arena is based on luring a team back. Don Levin is a rich guy from Chicago who would be interested in buying the Yotes and moving them to Seattle. Time to cut bait in PHX. From: @TheHockeyNews

Have to agree. Feel bad for people in Arizona who will lose jobs or who genuinely became emotionally invested in their team, but the experiment is a complete and utter failure. Moreover, they actually have a good team, with a good system, good prospects and a decent future. Move them to a market that will support them and an ownership that wants to spend and they may attract some good players out of free agency and become a real threat in a short time. It's kind of a dream situation for anyone who is looking to buy a team. When True North bought the Thrashers and moved them back to Winnipeg, they were buying a bad team with a few bright spots and saying "be patient, we'll spend when the time is right, we're not going to make any significant moves for a while". Anyone looking to buy the Coyotes can look to add immediately and have a playoff team right out of the gates. A playoff team in the first years of moving is huge to solidify the fan base.

So say Kelly & Walsh are correct about the 2 new Canadian teams in 2015 (Markham/Quebec) and Phoenix moves to Seattle. Isles are already going to Brooklyn. Slowly weeding out some of the worse hockey markets, but still some to go. KHL is currently taking too much talent IMO to expand the league --- but whatever...
  • Boston
  • Buffalo
  • Detroit ??
  • Markham Blackberries
  • Montreal
  • Quebec Metis
  • Ottawa
  • Toronto
  • Brooklyn Wangers
  • Carolina
  • Florida
  • New York Rangers
  • Phillthy
  • Pittsburgh
  • Tampa Bay
  • Washington
  • Chicago
  • Columbus
  • Dallas
  • Kansas City Pioneers (formerly the Sopranos??)
  • Minnesota
  • Nashville
  • St Louis
  • Winnipeg
  • Anaheim
  • Calgary
  • Colorado
  • Edmonton
  • LA Kings
  • San Jose
  • Seattle Salmon (formerly the starving Roadrunner carnivores)
  • Vancouver

Not sure I like it
Difficult to piece together though...

Switch Columbus and Detroit. Also, did you do away with the Devils?

Expansion is wrong. They need to contract teams. It will never happen, and that's a damn shame.

The league will go to 32 at some point in the next 10 years. Phoenix to Seattle. Expansion teams in Quebec City and GTA. There are no wealthy folks willing to buy and run a franchise out of Hartford, Milwaukee or Kansas City.

The NHL should begging this man to purchase a team

Quote:
"Seattle would be a great market for hockey, but right now there is no building — it's years away," Levin said. "(But) if there was something that came available I might try to buy that."

The question begs, why would anyone — especially a man so successful in other businesses and seemingly so level-headed — yearn to join a league on the brink of a second canceled season in seven years due to labor strife?

"Hockey is my passion," Levin said matter-of-factly.
http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2...tanley-cup-nhl

The Key Arena would be a temporary home until the new arena is built. Levin has the money to buy the team.

http://www.keyarena.com/events-tickets/seating-charts

Levin's tobacco company is worth more than $2B

Quote:
Republic Tobacco, a privately held company that makes the Drum brand of loose tobacco in the United States, is seeking a buyer and could fetch more than $2 billion in a potential sale, people familiar with the matter told Reuters in an exclusive report.
Quote:
Republic is owned by D.R.L. Enterprises, a holding company founded in 1969 by Chicago entrepreneur Donald Levin. D.R.L has businesses in aircraft, medical equipment, machinery leasing, film distribution and licensed sports product manufacturing, said the report.

There are NHL ready arenas in Portland, Kansas City, and Houston. But zero interest from investors to own and run a franchise there. And that's really the bottom line isn't it? Too many cities ascribe to the "If you build it, they will come" philosophy. They want the hockey-related tax revenue. They want the non-hockey event tax revenue. They want the economic development. Frankly, the only major success story in the past 20 years is the Baltimore Orioles when you look at what they've done to the surrounding area. But bottom line is you need someone willing to put their capital at risk.

I think last seasons standings are used up until a certain point and then the current season standings take over. In a normal year, I think it's one month

It could look like this, if they want the 4 conference league:

Vancouver
Calgary
Edmonton
Seattle
Anaheim
Los Angeles
San Jose
Colorado

Detroit
Minnesota
Chicago
Winnipeg
Dallas
Nashville
Columbus
St. Louis

Rangers
Islanders
New Jersey
Philadelphia
Washington
Carolina
Florida
Tampa Bay

Toronto
Ottawa
Montreal
Buffalo
Boston
Pittsburgh
Markham
Quebec City

edit: somehow I have 33 teams?

edit2: Detroit in twice, sorry Pittsburgh

I think they would move Columbus to the East before Detroit. Detroit has too many rivalries in the West and Columbus is geographically further East anyway, I believe.

Edit: Nevermind, you have Detroit in both the East and West.

I understood the outrage over celebration of the goal against LA, but the celebration yesterday? I didn't see anything to get upset about. Coyotes just really overreacted like babies.
