I really hate Gulutzan:

This coach is not going to do that. That's what he has shown. You can criticize him, but you are not going to change his mind. He is the coach of the team right now, and he gets to make the decision.
I still can't buy that Eakin will be on the 4th line after Roy is healthy. That's just madness.

Why are the fans getting punished for GM Joe rolling the dice and overpaying another 7th defender?

Wish I had asked that one ....

Heika only said "anything is possible" based on how the season has gone so far, and not that he "definitely" will be on line 4. Yes, it would be a travesty should that happen. Eakin has earned himself a line 2 spot without Roy and should Roy return, a line 3 spot with Vincour and Smith would be ideal (Morrow-Fiddler-Nystrom getting 4th line minutes).

Yeah, but he seems to be clearly hinting there's a strong possibility that would happen, and that he wouldn't be surprised if it did.

That just bums me out. Veteran D getting rewarded for having an inability to get the puck on net or into the zone on the PP rewarded over and over again bums me out too.

I think Heika's just jaded like us, is all. He doesn't have inside info on Eakin's status with Roy's return, he's just guessing like we are based on what we've seen from Gully.

Absolutely insane this coach is.

Larsen scratched. Eakin to the 4th line and Morrow with the full NMC. Yay what a great chat.

Joe as GM you get to make decisions and force Gulutzan to apply them. He does not get to dictate to you. At the end of the day you're responsible and whether you remain in this position depends on your choices. When you see something obviously wrong you have to step in or you're going to get fired along with your coach.

Gulutzan on Roussel

Quote:
What we’ve told (Roussel) is we want him to bring some energy and play the same gritty, abrasive game he has played in the American Hockey League. Be a disciplined, very hardworking guy
How Roussel plays, IMO, will dictate if Wandell is traded or placed on waivers over the weekend.

GM Joe said they will go with 8 D while they give Oleksiak a test run. That means a forward needs to be off the roster for Roy to come off IR.

Like that'll happen. Since there isn't a single disciplined guy on the team.

A team that has a problem taking too many penalties brings in a guy to play a "gritty, abrasive game"? I can't see anything going wrong with that plan.

I don't want to harp on it too much since we had this discussion previously when he was first called up, but he's taken fewer and fewer penalties this season as his responsibility and production has gone up. From watching the games, his physicality hasn't changed at all, but the ridiculous Steve Ott-like antics and trash talk has really tailed off.

He's taken 1 minor in 5 games since going back to Texas, and he has 3 minors in the entire month of January.

Stars' woes under discussion here on ESPN radio discussion between LeBrun, Burnside, and Melrose (towards the end of the program).

That's a good sign, but I worry that his desire to impress and limited ice time may cause him to be overly aggressive. He won't be getting first line minutes like he was in Austin. He might get 8 minutes a game in which to make an impression. Plus the way we've seen NHL referees make calls this season against Dallas doesn't seem benefit his style of play. I hope he does well, but it seems like Dallas needs someone who can add scoring and puck possession to the line up not grit. Anyway, I hope I'm wrong.

I think they're also realizing that trying to go small and skilled isn't exactly working, hence bringing up the biggest guy in the organization, as well as a super-pest.

Seemed to me like you were reading too much into what he was saying back then. I don't recall the exact quotes but at best they seemed to open the possibility that if the team has enough center depth Benn could move back to the wing, not that he's better or more valuable as a winger.

So Larsen isn't even in the conversation to play.

Jordie Benn could potentially play over Rome. He'd be paired with Daley.

I feel like Larsen is being handled like Derek Holland was and it's hard to watch.

I kind of want Larsen to get traded to a team with a competent coach so I can watch him flourish and become that #1 I believe he can be.

I'd rather he flourished here of course, but given the choice between watching him rot here or excel elsewhere I would probably take the latter.

Guys, Larsen is a 23 year old sophmore, who's struggled at times this season. It's not the end of the world if he misses a few games. It happens with young D-men all the time in this league.

He's clearly played his way into the doghouse, and he'll have to play his way out of it. That means not taking a high stick penalty every time he gets a chance. He was playing top pairing minutes the other night, so it's not like he's completely at the point where he's going to be scratched every night.

I mean like him as much as you guys, and think he's going to develop into something great. But having a bad start and sitting a few games in sophomore year isn't anything to get worked up about. We have 8 D-men right now. It's going to get very annoying around here if we're going to ***** everytime a young D-man sits a game. Just expect that one of Oleksiak, Dillon, or Larsen will sit a given night and you'll be better off for it.

Other than penalties, where has his game slipped?
