Holy overpayment! Have you seen his contract? If Vancouver really wants him they should just wait until the Canucks buy him out and claim him off waivers.
But Vancouver is fine with the cap, so if Vancouver wants him....they will have to offer Vancouver something that improves Vancouver. Otherwise, no way Vancouver deals him to Vancouver.
Did people actually think Luongo would be riding the pine all year? Despite what the bozos around here will tell you, he's a pretty damn good goalie. As is Schneider. If they're both here, they'll both play. Best not to get too caught up in the choices game to game. Canucks are in good hands with either guy.

If Vancouver deals him it will be out of the conference! There is no way we deal him to Vancouver unless it is for a vast overpayment!

They are, and if it doesn't turn into animosity between the two (which many drama seekers are itching for), then you have top notch goaltending in near every game you play. It's a great problem to have. Every time out you know each of these guys are going to push each other to be better. Internal competition. The result of which means you are in every game (or likely to be).

For once I agree with what AV is doing. lol.
I have been flip flopping for a long time, but based on recent events, and based on how the team plays, I think that the team should be looking to trade Schneider instead. Luongo saved this team from the dark ages when he came and I think he deserves to win a cup with this team or die trying.
His cap hit is friendly to the Canucks, and Schneider would return more in a package that would maintain the Canucks window.
Schendier has no NTC or a NMC and is signed for 3 years which most teams will like
Luongo is playing very well right now and the team just looks more comfortable with him in net, the Canucks can do the same thing with Lack what they did with Schnedier and groom him. I'd ask for a shootout specialist goalie and replace Luongo with him for shootouts only tho, as that 1 point is pretty crucial.. but that's the only thing.
Bleach, i know you think i'm just arguing, but be honest, did you think Luongo was going to get 5 starts in your first 8 games?

Keep in mind, with Kassian playing well with the Sedins, it fixes our need for a top-6 forward.
Sedin Sedin Kassian
Booth Kesler Burrows
Maybe 3C is a weakness (although Schroeders looked fine)
But really cant think of a way to improve this team without bringing in 1 high end player.
If were gonna get a prospect/pick package it makes more sense to deal him in the offseason.
Great post. I agree 100%. If someone blows us away with an offer involving an impact player before the deadline, we do it it, otherwise trade one in the offseason for futures.

I mean, sure Bozak/Goc/etc would make our 3rd line better than Schroeder.
I won't argue your theory, but i would have also assumed they may have wanted to see how Cory handled the sarters role. I don't think Luongo playing well for 10 games is going to change the market, it isn't like he hasn't been consistantly good. Now other goalies faltering...maybe.

Pretty much bang on, IMO. I doubt any GM is watching to see how Luongo does the first few games.

With how AV uses the zone starts, I think Goc could maybe help, inexpensively... Do well what Malhotra used to do well, and free up Kesler for more offensive zone starts...

Yeah but is that bit of an upgrade in the bottom 6 be worth moving Lu for?

Ya, my point is (and was) that there was going to be a story out of Vancouver anyways... Either Luongo plays really well (and gets more starts), or Luongo doesn't play really well and gets less starts (or, plays as expected... thus, plays as scheduled)...
Given the three story scenarios, force the best story you can... Give Luongo a whole bunch of starts... Then, while he's playing well... Put Schneider in (he'll play well too, IMHO)... Trade deadline is only a couple months away... Playoffs soon after that...
Lots of time to get Schneider prepared for #1 going into the playoffs... Luongo needs to leave on a positive note (setting up the narrative)... Having Luongo on the way out having (unfair narrative, IMHO) playing poorly against LA last playoffs doesn't help Luongo's value... How much doesn't it help? Probably not much... But it's there... It's a selling point... Luongo deserves to be a starter on one of the best teams in the league (given the reality of the season)... Better than if he doesn't deserve to be a starter on one of the best teams in the league (given the reality of the season)...
Bottomline for me... Both are excellent goaltenders... Stories are going to come out of Vancouver anyways... Right now, make the story positive about Luongo... Then story positive about Schneider... Luongo being really deserving to get the starts as well though... It's the best out of all stories there can be... It's not about changing the market... It's about guiding the story (which is going to be there anyways)... A positive perception about Luongo being a "back up" while fully deserving as being the starter can only help (how much it can help, probably not a heck of a lot in reality)... But the story is going to be there anyways... Gillis admitted that Hodgson was set-up (put in a position to be seen as valuable) in January and February last season because he was going to be traded... Same thing here, IMHO... Luongo is being put into a position to be seen as real valuable to the Canucks...

Burrows may change things heavily in this regard. Consider the ease to which he has taken to the 3C role, and what it could mean to potential trade targets. Right now, Kassian is with the twins. When Booth and Kesler are back, re-unite AMEX. Then they have the choice to run with Schroeder, with Burrows on his wing, or replace Schroeder with Burrows and run a great checking line.

That's great depth. Any addition to that line-up squeezes Weise out, and likely shifts one of Hansen or Raymond down to the 4th line.
I agree... Having Burrows being able to play center makes him the ultimate rover for this team... Nothing is needed, IMHO, to force a Luongo deal sooner than it should be done to try and get the most value you can out of Luongo...
At this point it's looking much more likely that they keep both. Lineup will come together and with Kesler seemingly a couple weeks away added to Zack Kassian's emergence, and there aren't a lot of glaring holes. As it is now they have a good team with two excellent goaltenders. Hard to envision a trade that would improve the team right now.
You can get a decent checking centre at the deadline for a 2nd or 3rd round pick at most deadlines.
This long drawn out soap opera will continue into June/July.
What a problem having two solid goalies! I long for the good old days when we jsut had Dan Cloutier and none of these issues.
It wouldn't be a problem if Schneider was still getting paid like a back up.
Of course having 2 good goalies is a bonus (Price and Halak) but eventually you have to move one and the longer it takes the bigger the chance for value to go down.
Heck, I don't know what I'm even talking about. Keep em both and good luck to ya, I hope you make it to the SCF!
Oh, this gets better everyday. I've never been a Canucks fan but I watch them a bit more now being out west. I just dont understand why management finds it productive to announce the day before games, who is and who isnt playing.
I hope Luongo just keeps playing well. It makes for an intersting situation to follow...
