Biggest trade deadline "Shocker"

What was the biggest deadline Shocker...

When Chelios went to Detroit? [ division rivals ]

Bourque to Colorado? [ everyone knew Ray wanted out , not shocking ]

Wendle Clark to Detroit? [A Toronto hero ]

I'M going Chelli to Detroit...

Recently, the Richards trade really blew me away. Did not expect it at all.

But it wasn't a deadline deal

Did he mean Brad to Dallas?

For me, probably Stars and Devils with Arnott, Nieuwendyk and others.

Given the choice between Lecavalier/Richards/St. Louis, if I had to pick only two of them to build around, Richards is the odd man out. Can't keep all three, especially with the dough Richards wanted. Can't see how this was a shocker - TB was out of the playoff picture and do you honestly expect a team that had other needs to address to handcuff itself to about $20M on THREE players?

(in before this year's NYR, because I know some smartass will say it! )

Hossa to the Pens. Everyone knew Pittsburgh wanted him. No one knew how they were going to acquire him. Hossa is still the best winger the Pens have had in years. Too bad they weren't able to keep him.

Awards:
Ryan Smyth to the Isles is the first one that comes to mind. That was out of nowhere.

So...how is that a deadline "shocker" then?

Because it was assumed that they were at least 10 other teams who could have put together a better offer than the Penguins, including Detroit. I don't think anyone expected the Pens to actually do it.

Being a Bruins fan the one that I was shocked at was Juneau going to Washington and Bruins getting Iafrate.

This was, and I remember how red hot he was..

He played in 15 regular-season games for the Avalanche, scoring 10 goals and 14 assists,

the kovalchuk to jersey, not a deadline day move, but nobody thought the devils would actually trade for that type of player.

Most recently, Hodgson for Kassian was a pretty big shocker for both teams.

This reminds me, does anybody know when the deadline is this season?

Agreed. As a Devils fan, I remember being utterly shocked when that deal went down and originally didn't like it but I sure ate crow soon though.

Nope, I meant Mike. Just guilty of skimming through too fast

First one that came to my mind was Mike Gartner for Glenn Anderson(and junk) in '94.

Arnott for Langenbrunner. Two contenders trading important parts of their roster, totally out of nowhere.

It was at the end of the day too. That was one of those trades that was held up in the queue way after 3pm. The other strange part is that less than two years prior the two teams met in the Finals.
