The Avs have no reason whatsoever to clear his salary. It's silly talk to act like his contract is stifling the Avs right now.

I wish the contract didn't keep factoring into the conversation. Yes, we know he's overpaid. He knows he's overpaid. It's not his fault an incompetent GM threw way too much money at him. Was he supposed to hold out for less money?

It shouldn't always have to factor into his ability as a player. Why does his inflated deal need to be mentioned every single time he doesn't play well? It's ridiculous. Evaluate the player on the merits of his play on the ice, not his contract.

The one and only reason to move him would be if a very valuable piece were available in exchange for him, or if it were the final year of his deal and there was virtually no chance of him re-signing, and the Avs wanted to get something in return before he bolted in the summer. To say they need to clear his salary just because is beyond silly when the Avs currently are still well below the cap and still will be there next year.

If I am a GM of another club, there's no way I am giving up my #2 defensemen for Stastny. For 100-120 games of Stastny, a #2 defensemen is just too steep a price. That is, unless he is willing to negotiate with me before the deal and extend for less money. In THAT scenario, Stastny would probably only be open to it if the team is competitive on a regular basis, which reinforces my first point that if I am a contending team, I don't want to trade my #2 for Stastny. My #2 D man on a perennial playoff team is probably better than him.

I think you'd ultimately they're going to have to take back prospects for him from a competing team, or trade him to a sucker team who will extend him at 6 million per. The only team I know who would be stupid enough to do that are the Blue Jackets and the Maple Leafs. Yikes.

Bozak + 2nd > Stastny right now seriously.

I'm hoping a coaching change wakes him up but he's been useless offenisvely for several games now.

Get rid of this guy before his value is lower than a 4th liner.

I'm probably Stazz biggest fan, and will ALWAYS defend him, but geez, we ALL know he has the skill, class and ability, but he really needs to get it together right now.

Then again, if Jones finds the back of the net, and Mcginn actually got the puck in, instead of off the iron, Stazz well and truly could have been sitting on 5-6 points, and no-one would be unfairly (in my opinion) criticizing him.

Put it this way guys. Imagine our team right now WITHOUT Stazz?

Our team without Stastny? Same level of suck. It just can't get any worse right now.

If trading Stastny meant they would sign O'Reilly then I'd be down for it. I've always felt that we couldn't sustain 3 great centers for long, someone would have to go.

I too am a huge Stastny fan but if it is between Stastny and O'Reilly then I say move Stastny for the Leaf's 1st rounder and call it a day.

Something needs to wake this team up and I feel that the thing most needed, a coaching change, won't happen.

Staz has made some nice passes that should have ended up in the back of the net.

He's also passed when he should have shot the puck into the back of the net himself.

If they can sign ROR to a long-term contract, I'm OK with trading Staz for the D help. But not if they only sign ROR to a bridge contract.

At least O'Reilly would still be under team control if he signed a two year bridge contract. Stastny can walk as a free agent or they'll have to pay him quite a bit to extend him.

I would rather just play O'Reilly in the top six and trade Stastny for help on D right now. If O'Reilly still isn't happy when his currently non existent contract would expire, they can deal with that at that time. One thing we know for sure is that they won't lose O'Reilly for nothing.

He also has zero:

Heart
Leadership
Wrist shot
Slap shot
Snap shot
imagination with the puck

Should've traded him when his value was high.

No heart? Leadership? You know this how?

No one has ever accused him of having a good shot, but he's always been a decent guy around the net for picking up the loose puck. And as far as I'm concerned being an awesome passer requires imagination and creativity. While he should have shot more, I feel it's a bit of damned if you do, damned if you don't. If he shoots and doesn't score, people would say pass... vice versa.

We defend him because we know he's so much better than he's shown to this point.

So I have Stasny on my fantasy team and wanted to see what was wrong with him, so I started reading this thread.

I saw there was 4 minutes left in the game, change the channel to watch him.... he scores twice...

Should I watch more of your games? haha

The immediate future for Stastny, and Jones should include getting scratched.

Time to trade him NOW.

His value is at an all-time high.

Maybe we can sneak Jones in his luggage while we're at it.

So Statstny fans - when you surround him with this incredible (and most likely expensive) talent on both wings, do you pay him $6M then? Just curious.
