If so I'd imagine the Canucks would be the front-runners for him.

EDIT: This was from when Doan was choosing betwen the Canucks and Coyotes

http://prohockeytalk.nbcsports.com/2...ncouver-today/

Quote:
Doan, an unrestricted free agent, was reportedly “blown away” by a presentation the Canucks made to the 35-year-old. Vancouver is eager to add a character power forward of Doan’s ilk to its top-six, and the opportunity to play with the Sedin twins and compete for a Stanley Cup is presumably an attractive one.

Also worth noting:

—- Canucks assistant GM Laurence Gilman, formerly an executive with the Jets/Coyotes, has a good relationship with Doan.

—- Doan’s wife is from Kamloops, British Columbia, and the couple spends time there in the offseason.

—- Doan is also a co-owner of his former junior team, the Kamloops Blazers (WHL).

If it is out of respect then I would guess NYR would be the most likely destination since he spent a good amount of time scouting the area.

Matthew Sekeres on twitter says it's pretty good chance Doan will be traded at the deadline if the coyotes aren't competitive.

Seattle isn't far from Vancouver or Kamloops.

Quebec is though...

Still, I'd rather not see the Coyotes move, but that's a discussion for another thread.

1) He has plenty of good hockey left in him.
2) He doesn't have a cup ring.
3) If he retires, Quebec/Seattle would be affected by his 35+ contract for the next 4 years.

If the team moves to Quebec, this is a thread.

If the team moves to Seattle, I imagine he goes with in order to try to finish what he started in Winnipeg all those years ago. Win a cup with HIS franchise.

With Callahan out I could see NYR making a pass right now. More likely he only gets moved at the deadline though. Still would love him as a Ranger.

He came real close to retiring this off-season. This just may be the last straw. The franchise owes him, he does not owe any debt to the franchise.

If we move to Seattle, i think he stays.
if we move to Quebec, i'd say he goes to the Canucks...MAYBE the Kings.

Did he really? If so why would he then sign a 4 year contract?

Insistence from his family, promise from Jamison to take over ownership, job security, love for the area, friends and fans. His loyalty is with his friends, fans, and the areas, not with the franchise.

The reason he took so long in deciding to re-sign had more to do with him retiring and not as much as if the ownership issue is resolved as speculated from the media. The team moves, he can still retire. The team would be a different franchise, as far as he would be concern.
