Teddy Purcell. He looked like utter crap in LA and was afraid of his own shadow and completely shied away from contact. He grew a set (and confidence) when he moved on to Tampa Bay.
Selanne holds the NHL record for goals by a rookie with 76 goals. I don't think he needed a change of scenery to become a star; he just needed one to win a Stanley Cup.
He was beginning to develop nicely the year he was traded. He scored 19 goals and had 33 assists in 66 games before being donated to Vacouver for Alex Stojanov. He only played roughly 80 games before the pens before he broke out.
So many guys but the one who really comes to mind was Dan Cleary due to where he was drafted. He was so bad in Chicago, he couldnt get a one way deal in UFA. He literally tried out for Detroit and even though he's knees are shot now, he's had a good run with the Wings.
Brad Stuart has been phenomenal for the Sharks so far since returning. Playing like a high end #2 d-man. Hopefully it keeps up, but after all the grumbling we heard from Detroit fans about how much he had declined we are all pretty thrilled.

During his time with San Jose and the Avs, he looked like he was washed up, but experienced a huge revival when he went to Anaheim.

The only people who were grumbling were people who either dont understand what a defenseman is who doesnt put up 40 pts or people who were pissed he was about to leave. Stuart, a guy who moved around quite a bit, really settled into a top 4 role in Detroit and as you see now, he's nothing but a solid two way hockey player.
Im pretty sure those same goofs who were complaining about him last year would love to have him back with the mess on Detroit's back end.

Selanne's worst season as a pro was with Colorado, where he only produced 32 points in 78 games. He was 33 years old at the time. And given that he had scored 20 or more goals 11 straight seasons (including 3 50+-goal campaigns), I don't think he exactly fits the description. He's more an example of an older player who got rejuvenated than a bust that needed a change of scenery.
To clarify, I interpreted the OP as being a high draft pick with huge expectations that struggled with his original team but later had a huge amount of success after being traded.
Latendresse was fantastic when healthy with the Wild after arriving with a reputation as an out of shape, lazy, soft player. I think his goal pace with the team was ~30 and he was second to Clutterbuck in hits.
