How about Stephen Weiss from Florida... kind of losing favour with the panthers and seems to be going in a different direction seeing he is a F/A at the end of the year? Doubt it'd cost us too much for a nice rental addition to our Top 6

Florida isn't going to just give him away. There will be a number of teams looking at Weiss, which will up his value. I don't think it makes sense for us to go after an impending UFA. We'd have to give up picks and/or prospects for a guy who might bolt in the summer. This would have made sense in 2007, but considering we are rebuilding, it doesnt make sense now.

Any decent center is going to be very expensive. I think we'd be better off continuing to focus on upgrading the D. Our organizational depth at the center position is solid and guys like Da Costa and Zibanejad need to be given a chance before we sell the farm to acquire someone who doesn't fit into the long term plans.

no short term fixes.
do not waste assets on that, promote internally - find out where the young guys in the org stand.
we've got a lot of highly rated guys down there, i want to see how good they are.

I can't really see us getting any rentals this year. Murray could make a move on a player in his 20's with term on his contract or still under control of the team, but he won't be using future assets to shore up holes solely for this season. We will see our young guys play and combined with a good team atmosphere, coaching, and system we will continue to succeed despite percieved holes.

This is another rebuilding year. Anything else is gravy.

As part of the rebuilt, this is the time for the organization to temporarily promote a prospect, as opposed to buying a Joe Juneau.

Bonjour Da Costa!

And this is how the legend of Mika Zibanejad is born.

Sit still. Hold tight. Patience.

Unless there is a deal to be made that helps the long term future of the team, don't do it. We're not one piece away from the Stanley Cup. Give Da Costa, Zibanejad, etc, chances to prove themselves, and use this as an opportunity to develop players further.

Worst case scenario, the team starts playing like **** and we get a Top 10 pick in a really deep draft with a lot of great prospects.

Historically Murray has made quick moves after injuries. Maybe we should consider overpaying for Ryan O'Reilly. He can salvage one of the top two center positions and can be converted to wing the following year. While it may suck giving up a good young prospect (anyone but Zibby), atleast we would have someone who can stick with the organization

we don't want that a hole on our team. and we definitely don't want to overpay for the greedy sob.

By the looks of it, I think our D is actually pretty good. Think about it. We have a core of EK, Methot, Philly, and Gonch and then Weircioch, Benoit, Boro and Lundin when he comes back to fill in the last two spots and I trust all those guys (haven't seen Lundin yet, obviously, but the few times I've seen him play I thought he was pretty good)

Right now BM should be focusing on getting a players like, as mentioned above, Weiss. With the dip the Florida has taken so far this year I'm not sure how difficult it would be to get him for a few small pieces. Regin, prospect and pick maybe?

I'd like to see what Da Costa can do. It would be nice if he could get some production from him and maybe he could be moved in the offseason for the right price.

When I ready this I thought of Kyle Turris pre-December 21st 2011. How is he doing now btw>

This is how I see it:

Give a couple more chance to Regin to perform at centre, if it fails bring up Da Costa next and then try to get O'Reilly.

Turris was asking 4M per year if I remember correctly. I'm sure a similar deal could be done with O'Reilly. Prove yourself then we will pay you.

Ryan O Reilly has no place in this organization unless he can be obtained cheaply. We have no need for him.

RoR would cost a lot and be out of place soon after Spezza got back. $5m for a 3rd line centre is a lot.

Weiss might cost us a prospect and a pick, but will work until Spezza comes back and is a UFA at the end of the season.

What if we could get a rental top 6 for a package based around Bishop

problem is, the teams that may be interested in Bishop don't have the extra centre to trade.

I dont think the solution is to trade for a center replacement.

We have guys like regin, zibanejad, and da costa who can take a shot at the second line while turris takes over the first.

We're not going to trade for a rental because we're still rebuilding and throwing away futures like that is stupid.

We're not trading for a long-term young center because he would be out of place as soon as spezza is back.

I think the best course of action, other than doing nothing and hoping someone steps up, is to trade for a young scoring winger. If we're going to give up the assets to add to our top six, it should be for someone who fits in our long-term plan, like turris did.

He only has one year left on his deal. I would not be opposed to this. He is a very entertaining player if nothing else.
