If were adding older guys, there's no better example than Larry Murphy...

The pylon was horrible in Toronto, goes to Detroit, plays with Lidstrom and wins two more cups on the top pairing. That team also had Fetisov and Larionov who both really needed a change of scenery before getting to Detroit.

He's more an example of an older player who got rejuvenated than a bust that needed a change of scenery.

To clarify, I interpreted the OP as being a high draft pick with huge expectations that struggled with his original team but later had a huge amount of success after being traded.
A change of scenery, in my opinion, means any player that everyone knows is underperforming expectations(which Selanne certainly was at that time) who manages to turn it around somewhere else. I don't think it's limited to prospects.

yeah, selanne's the opposite of this thread. Good example of player who suffered greatly from a change of scenery to colorado. Wasnt as good in san jose either.

Grabner - waivers

MacArthur - Buffalo walked away from deal

St. Louis - obvious

Teddy Purcell

Byfuglien - he was good but not like he has been in Atlanta/Winnipeg

Blake Wheeler

Bertuzzi

Naslund

Mike Rebeiro - was nothing in Montreal developed into ppg player in Dallas

Steve Sullivan - let go on waivers by Pat Quinn, although he did score 20 on the 4th line.

Grabovski

Ray Whitney - waivers from SJ?

Mark Streit

Alexander Steen

Im pretty sure those same goofs who were complaining about him last year would love to have him back with the mess on Detroit's back end.
You have got to be joking. Towards the end of the season and the playoffs Stuart was awful. How you can call him a two way hockey player is beyond me, he is a defensive dman. Do you watch Detroit play?

Josh Gorges was a barely serviceable 6th/7th defenseman in San Jose. He was incredibly weak and got knocked around constantly, and he always seemed to be lagging one step behind the play. He didn't have the brains or the brawn to be successful in the NHL.

Then, after a trade to Montreal, he toughened up and finally adjusted to the speed of the pro game. He turned out to be a top shutdown guy for them.

Amazing what the change of scenery did to him. Or maybe it was just good timing. Regardless, he sucked in SJ and has been awesome for the Habs.

Chara did all right when he came over with the draft pick that got Spezza, in exchange for Yahsin. Good times, Good times.

The last part of that trade was Bill Muckaclt who played 70 games as a winger for Ottawa in 01/02 with ZERO goals. Went to the Wild and in 8 games got 5 goals and 3 assists, leading the team, then had a career ending injury.

Only 6 games in but JVR has looked like he could 'turn' things around in Toronto.

Yeah, Sharp was so clutch in the finals that year. Thought about putting Ladd on my post, but I thought his increase in play wasn't as drastic as those two.

An example I thought of was Teddy Purcell, maybe. Or Vermette, twice, actually, after arriving in Columbus and then after arriving in Phoenix.

Niskanen was seen as a cap dump/throw in in the Neal trade and my understanding was most Dallas fans were happy to get rid of him at the time, but he has played very well for Pittsburgh so far.

Turris doesn't qualify because he was starting to break out with Phoenix at the time I think. He just refused to sign with them that's all. Would've starting showing his abilities with any team including Phoenix imo.

That's more of a case of a young guy continuing to develop toward his potential.

Rich Peverley looked like a wholly average mucker in Nashville. He played with everyone from Arnott and Sullivan to Fiddler and Tootoo, and he just could not find a place. Goes on waivers, goes to Atlanta and explodes, then to Boston where he became Raptor Jesus.
