You can't say that in every situation, considering the Rangers for example made the ECF in 1997 and didn't make the playoffs again until after the lockout.

I'm only saying that cause elliotte Friedman stated that coyotes is a good team and management and gets great wins per dollars spent. But that if the yotes had a owner with open pocket book the sky would be the limit.

And in effort to do research is there a good guide that breaks down the yotes?

Lets keep the discussion on the business side of things.

Take any discussions of players to the main board.

Not sure if Phoenix fans will appreciate Seattle fans discussing roster moves with them?

Unless I'm mistaken, it would be an unprecedented deal.
(Update: The Buffalo Sabres (NHL) and Buffalo Braves (NBA) both began play in the 1970-71 season.)

If it happens, it might be a logistical nightmare for KeyArena with necessary updates to the facility before the NHL's October 2013 season opener. At the same time, it would not be impossible for both teams to share the arena with that configuration for just two seasons. (Think the former America West Arena: Coyotes/Suns).

Personally, since the agreement to buy and move the Sacramento Kings to Seattle will, essentially, guarantee that a new Seattle arena will be built by the fall of 2015, I'd prefer the NHL start in Seattle for the 2015-16 season through expansion or relocation.

Then again, I'm just a hockey fan, not a billion dollar franchise owner.

So, what's the deal with Key Arena? Wikipedia says it sits around 15,000 for hockey, making it certainly suitable as a temporary arena. How much of those seats are obstructed views?

I just can't see Glendale and the Coyotes ever getting something done now. This was it, it's over. Bring 'em up here.

Where are they going to play in Seattle while the arena gets built? Key? If it's a small ****hole for basketball, how is it acceptable for hockey?

A year or two in Key isn't going to break a team ffs. The NHL has played in worse venues. Hell, the Islanders just signed a long lease to play at Barclays with it's small capacity and crappy sight lines.

Half of it would be tarped off though. Under 10,000 usable seats.

What about the Tacoma Dome? Can it be retrofitted?

The Tacoma Dome is frankly the better venue, but, as was noted yesterday in the previously mentioned radio interview that KJR did with Elliotte Friedman, they would need to get a new ice plant as they currently do not have one. Also, and I think this has been discussed here before, the MOU requires the NHL team to play at the Key.

Speaking of that KJR interview w/Friedman, it happened on Ian Furness' show and can be heard via podcast on their show page: http://www.sportsradiokjr.com/pages/...ness_page.html

At left, there should be a box with "Audio from the Show" and there, look for Elliotte Friedman 1-31. Above it is an interview clip they did with Chris Daniels as well if you want to listen to that.

Furness, for the non-Seattle guys on the board who may have satellite, is also ROOT Sports' main WHL announcer. Won't be doing tonight's game (that's a Canadian simulcast game tonight) but will be likely calling the game on March 8 when Everett is at Spokane. Root only has six games this year, and three of them are simulcasts from Shaw up in western Canada, including tonight's and next week. Then they don't have another game until that March 8 one.

Sure, but saw a report it would cost 150 million for full remodel, to get ice sheet in might be much less expensive

It might just barely possibly make do as a temp, but only if the new arena is confirmed to be ready to start construction, and that an NBA team is on the way. I don't think an NHL owner would be a problem, but the other two elements haven't as of yet been established, thus everything is on hold. And thus "temp" isn't good enough, I don't think so. Of course, those other issues could be resolved at any monent, who knows.

Plus, wasn't there language in the new arena agreement that any professional team that came to the city before the arena was finished, NBA or NHL, would have to play in KeyArena until the work was done? Even if Tacoma Dome would be a better fit, I'm not sure that they'd even be able to play there if they wanted to.

Not until April or even May at the earliest pending how an auction goes apparently.
