Colorado gave up an asinine amount to get Varlamov. They won't trade O'Reilly for a goalie. They'll look for another young center or defenseman. They'll want one of Zibanejad, Cowen, or Turris.

We shouldn't have won the Washington game, and despite outplaying the Habs (and deserving of a win), with Price and Pacioretty and Subban, it would have been a lot closer.

Believe me, I'm really hoping I'm wrong, but two weeks from now, these same people will miss Spezza. You just don't replace an elite forward like him.

You know...it's a weird way to look at it but...when Spezza comes back from injury he usually goes into beast mode and really cuts up opposing teams. He might be getting back right near the end of the season/playoffs. If our team can squeak into the playoffs without him we could be in for a huge boost come post-season...where everyone else's best players are going to be feeling the effects of a compact, intense season.

Hmmm...

We won't be trading any of those 3 players. They are part of the young up and coming potential in Ottawa. So sorry but no deal with Colorado.

Hey guys, remember that moment where people said lets trade DaCosta because there is no room for him with our center depth?

Watch DaCosta get an opportunity and amaze people. If you think Zibanejad has played well, wait till DaBoss gets his chance.

I agree. I'm hopin we can stay in the thick of playoff contention before his return. If so, it could be a major boost to a playoff run. But there is also the very real risk of this becoming part of a major hit to our playoff chances. We can survice this right now, but as soon as another major injury comes, we are it more significant trouble. We have become very thin in terms of scoring and we'd have trouble handling a long-term injury to any of Turris, Alfredsson or Michalek.

On the news last night he apparently tweaked his back in practice a couple of weeks started and it's been progressively getting worse (or at least not getting better), so they decided to see a specialist.

Silfverberg - DaCosta - Alfie
Zibanejad - Turris - Michalek
Latendresse - Smith - Neil
Greening - O'Brien - Condra
Regin, Daugavins

Strenght is that all lines can score but it's not like replacing a player of Spezza's caliber is an easy thing

Good idea, we need more bad karma!

Cowen, Petersson, Spezza, Stone, Hoffman, Lundin... Who's next!?!?!

Murray, please pleeeeease get your head out of your asp and realize that Regin is not a top-6 player already.
I missed the Murray's comment where he said that Regin will be the 2nd line center????

Unfortunately the spin as most of us know degenerates over time. I think there is a good chance he will have serious back issues for the remainder of his career. Hopefully this is a one off problem but I think that is unlikely.

Interesting to see if they call up Da Costa.
He's playing in St Johns today and tomorrow, could be in Montreal for Sunday game.

Question for you guys, I'm a Leafs guy, but for fantasy, I'm thinking about dropping Granlund for Turris.

Now with Spezza out for the reg. season most likely, will Turris see top line duties or what?

Why does everyone peg Turris as still our number 2 center even with Spezza out. He's going to be playing upwards of 17 minutes as our number one Center until Spezza comes back. Would also like to see Alfie and Michalek on that line.

I think people are more just discussing what to do with the 'Other" scoring line. I think most of us fully anticipate Turris' line will be the primary focus of other team's top checkers, and that Turris will also now be on the 1st PP.

With Michalek moving to the left side with Turris and Alfie, I think this is even more apparent.

Not a legitimate Cup contender? When I looked this morning, we were in first place in the East. Last year, we took the Rangers to seven games in round one. Last year, the 8th seed in the West won the Cup. In 2010, the East 7th seed Flyers went to the Finals. In this crazy, shortened season, any team that makes the playoffs has a shot if they get healthy at the right time, get goaltending, and get some bounces.

Especially if we make the playoffs WITHOUT Spezza...imagine what kind of boost getting Spezza back at the end of the season could be for us.

Spezza, frankly, warranted more Hart Trophy talk than he got last season. That’s how good he was while putting up 84 points on a young and surprising team.
