Got the update too. Will be interesting, here is some info on him from his FSW page:

Quote:
Jon Rosen joins FOX Sports West after spending four years as the play by play broadcaster and public relations director with the WHL’s Everett Silvertips. A former Michigan Wolverines hockey announcer, the Los Angeles native has also called games for the Las Vegas 51s and the High Desert Mavericks.
http://www.foxsportswest.com/pages/jon_rosen_index

His most recent story written about the Kings: http://www.foxsportswest.com/01/25/1...1&feedID=10072

I think this will be a good fit with his history and knowledge of SoCal and hockey in general.

I've seen him talk to Bob and Jim on TV before. Seems like a good fit.

I am assuming he will likely change the name, but that is where he is at in the meantime.

As long as he doesn't do the dopey Q and A's that Hammond tried to pull off, he should be great!

Hammond's Q & A's were hilarious.

First, he would ask for questions. Then, he would never answer any of the questions and dance around them.

EXACTLY. And the questions he did answer were all things he'd covered a thousand times on the blog.

im going to hold off any judgement for now. Im not a big fan of his on camera personality (he feels very out of place during the games to me; almost feels like he should be covering the quacks) but maybe his journalist side will win me over. I stopped visiting kings insider about 2-3 weeks after rich left because everything being posted was pretty much crap but i'll start checking it daily again and see how he does.

He was not the first choice, but he ended up with the job when the person who was picked decided against it.

Original choice was not a writer from the LA Area.

I will reserve judgement for 3 weeks and then start cutting people.

I do think there were far better choices and that the Kings dropped the ball here.

I really like this hiring. I've seen him a couple times, and he seemed to have a lot of energy, enthusiasm, and some insight that I hadn't heard yet. I'll definitely be looking forward to reading what he has to say; hope I'm not disappointed.

It's a weird job. If it was just blogging, sure there are several far more viable candidates. However, because there's an on-camera element to this job as well, the person selected not only has to be good at writing, they have to have a good on-camera presence as well.

Hammond was terrible on camera, and I'm guessing they were trying to improve on that somewhat with this hire.

It didn't help Hammond that we all thought he was anorexic.

ROFL.................................

Btw... Ran into Hammond at a Galaxy Game(regular season before he announced he was leaving).... after a 10 min convo apparently he spent too much money while being on the road with the team to make it a career. And I am not saying STRIP Clubs... and stupid stuff.... just quality of life needed $$$$ and what not.

That sounds weird. What does he have to spend money on if travel and lodging are provided for? Food? Can't be that much, and I think they can eat with the players. Unless he is talking about being forced to pay for every other dinner with the broadcast crew or something. Which is nothing to complain about I would gladly donate 5% of my paycheck every year to have routine dinners with them...
