IMO Leafs take Jones.

You can't pass up on someone of his talent. Rielly - Jones is a filthy pair.

Rielly - Jones
Gardiner - Finn
Percy/Black/Finn/Gunnar/Phaneuf fill in some other spots.

I'd take MacKinnon for the Sens. Forwards are usually a smaller risk when we're talking about a top 2 pick.

Plus, we have Spezza-Turris down the middle now, but Spezza's not getting any younger.

Not so sure about that. I could see the Oilers taking Jones given the option. They have gone pretty much with the consensus the last 3 years with the first overall. If they had it again I donno if that changes. And right now the consensus seems to be Jones.

A potential franchise center... No brainer.

When did Jones take out MacKinnon? Do the WJCs really affect you guys' judgment that much?

Oleksiak will be on the team from Friday, Nemeth will be in the NHl next seasn and Jones will start immediately you would think..

Jones - 6'3
Oleksiak - 6'7
Nemeth - 6'3

Something very good to build around
Nemeth is 6'4 or 6'5. Don't forget Dillon at 6'3 and Vance at 6'5, either. And we could always sign Sustr (6'8) as well.

He has been suggested to be on par with MacKinnon by some reputable names since the beginning of the season. Even before the WJC quite a few posters on here said they would take Jones over MacKinnon. I know at least a few WHL fans on the Oilers board have been on the Jones train since early in the season.

Edit: that being said, the WJC always changes a lot of people's mind as it is the first time for many that they actually get to see the players play.

That is an interesting point. If MacKinnon was 2 weeks younger he would not be eligible to be drafted until next year. On the other hand if Jones was 2 weeks older he would have been eligible last year.

It is an interesting point, but looking at birthdays is a fickle judgement. In my opinion, don't punish a kid for being born in October, but acknowledge that a kid born in August who is just beginning to light it up might finally be developing.

Anyway, Yakupov has nearly the same birthday as Jones. Two weeks earlier and he's a '11 draftee. So it's not like it's just Jones where this is happening.

Mac. I love Jones, but players like Nathan are very very rare.

I would never take a defenseman 1st overall over a centre if they were the top 2 choices.

You think a Patrick Kane is better then a Sidney Crosby-Jamie Benn hybrid?

I don't, and most scouts don't think so either.

I, like most Canadians, really grew to like Drouin at the WJC... But if you've got the choice, you take MacKinnon.. Especially as the NYI, Tavares-MacKinnon would be one of the best one-two punches in the game..

For the Wild, I'd imagine they would take MacKinnon. Simply because with Suter, Brodin and Dumba, the Wild have three top-pairing or potential top-pairing guys. Jones would make that four, which would make our blue-line awesome, but man, no team needs a backend that stacked.

Mackinnon could slot in as the #2 center, which would allow Granlund to move up to the 1st RW alongside Koivu and Parise. It would work well all around.

EDIT: Throw in Barkov for the Finnish connection as well. Would not surprise me.

I guess that's why Jones is first on Bobby Mac's rankings.

Seth Jones on the Oilers. We need a center more than a defenseman but I think Jones is the closest thing to Pronger that we'll see in the near future.
