We should have traded for Nash last season. You need to strike when the iron is hot, and I think Nash would have put us over the top last year if he was acquired. It may have taken losing Krieder, but there aren't dynasties anymore, so you have to roll out big time when you have the chance.
I agree. And if it had cost a premium (say Dubinsky, Kreider, Erixon, cond. 1st) I still would have been okay with it.

I don't recall if McD was part of the main deal. All i remember is that Kreider was the focal point of the trade.

Not sure how you think it would have put us over the top when Kreider had 5 goals in the post season. How many more would Nash have got us??? And we would have been without a couple other guys as well...Dubi/Artie and perhaps even McDonagh. Who did you have taking their places? So, I don't really think you thought that completely through.

I just sense that this team is not as tight, and it reflects on the ice.

Everyone has pointed to the problems (too many penalties, no secondary scoring, lack of speed, etc), but the main problem is the PP, which has been pathethic for the past 20 years. It's a complete farce, and this will continue to bring this team down, and not at the same level as the other elite teams in the East/league.

Also, I really like Nash and his skill, blah, blah, blah, but the dude has got to score once in a while and stop hitting the goalie's logo. I'm starting to think he's testing the goalies equipment.

Finally, what really annoys me when we play the Pens, is the obvious biased officiating we have to endure. It's ridiculous! Crosby will NEVER get penalized for anything he does against us, it's just crazy.
I said to my brother that I, for some reason, take a liking to last year's team much more than this year's so far.

I hope that changes.

every single powerplay we had immediately killed all our momentum. it was like pittsburgh intentionally took penalties so that they could regain the momentum. just ridiculous how awful it looked today.

With Stepan playing the way he is, we don't have any other (good) centers besides Richards. We might need to make a trade for a guy like Weiss to come in and give us some depth in the C area. Unless this team gets some confidence and gets their **** going, this is going to be a long season without making a move or two.

I don't think it would have taken McD. I think it was mainly about Krieder.

He way have potted 5, but at this point Nash is more of a complete package. He would have taken the heat off of Gaborik, and we were clicking on all cylinders, so you have to crack some eggs to make an omelet.

If the trade didn't include McD, we should have pulled the trigger.

Fine, let's assume it was only Kreider, Dubi, Erixon and a 1st. You've now added Nash but lost Kreider and Dubi from our playoff roster. Who do you fill the missing spot with...and are you really still expecting more than 5 goals from Nash in the playoffs? Bottom line is we wouldn't have been any better in hindsight.

Taking the heat off Gaborik wouldn't have done anything. He was injured.

Rangers didnt play a bad game they just didnt get the luck factor tonight. Easily could have been a 3-2 Rangers win. Penguins caught some breaks and cashed in. Cha Ching. I still liked the Rangers tonight and something to build on. have no fear. LGR!!!!!!!!!

Not much of a team look tonight.

I hope they get it together, as they looked fairly dismal.

You're kidding, right? They didn't have more than two or three legit scoring chances the whole game.

Face it, unless we go back to giving up one goal a game and Lundqvist standing on his head, the Rangers will be lucky to make the playoffs, much less win the division or contend for the Cup. Maybe we should point towards the next two years, and hope for reinforcements, but when you have Mike Rupp playing a regular shift, Pyatt as a second line regular, Richards and Stepan doing nothing, and Stu Bickel, Asham, career minor leaguers like Ferriero, Halpern getting big minutes, your just not going to score very much.

And I know everyone complains (with reason) about the pathetic power play, mostly because it's pathetic, but it has stunk for three years. At some point, you have to admit, hey, maybe they don't just have much talent up front (though they pass the puck around the perimeter aimlessly until someone makes a mistake, trying to score the perfect goal, when half the team has "manos de piedra").

One more thing - though Hagelin is blazing fast and does a lot of good things, he hasn't scored in 35 games, doesn't shoot even though he has a good shot, and the team up front lacks speed and takes forever to get up the ice.

Oh, and you can't overpass when the MSG ice is so awful.

On the bright side, with Stralman playing so well, we have a fabulous defense - tell Tortorella to start using it.

-The Nash, Richards, Gaborik line needs to be broken up. We're becoming the mid 2000's Ottawa Senators. The parallels are eerie. Great first line, crap forward depth, solid defense and goalie, but never quite good enough to win it all. Distribute the wealth. The Hagelin-Richards-Gaborik line worked so well last season, why hasn't it been tried once yet 7 games in?

-Nash is a phenomonal talent, but god damn, he needs to learn how to use his teammates.

-Really liking Stralman's game lately. This defense would be absolutely deadly if we could pair him with Staal and put Del Zotto with Sauer if he was healthy. Hopefully McIlrath can step in next year and take Sauer's place and add that consistent snarl that Sauer gave us on the back end.
Good post, and agreed with these points. I think everyone's overreacting about Stepan. I'll attribute it to a slow start, but he really has been terrible.

We really need to find a way to beat Pittsburgh because odds are they will be an opponent in the playoffs.

Nash has been a beast and our best forward but it would be nice if he can put in some goals.

Also, stop these stupid ****ing penalties. If you're gonna take a penalty, don't let it be careless errors like too many men. I'm not panicking but for the first time I'm building up some frustration

Right, I get that feeling too. The lack of chemistry/effort is apparent.

I think the style we're playing makes a difference, too. Maybe they felt that having a scorer such as Nash would make us open up the offense, but they are flat wrong. Boring as it is, we need that grinding, forechecking, play in their zone and let Henrik and the defense take care of the rest style and win 2-12 an 3-2 games and ad shootouts. Or maybe they're just not yet in shape.
