Actually we can afford to keep both...

The canucks are already tight enough for the cap next season.

We could but I do not believe either would agree to another rendition of this mess, Likewise, it neither helps our depth nor their value. One will be dealt eventually but I am beginning to wonder if Gillis has been pulling Houdini and Schneider was always on his trade list - more than the media anticipated anyway.

Doesn't really matter how tight you are as long as you're under.

Thanks captain obvious.

No but seriously, keeping Luongo the team will mean one of our other positions will suffer.

Luongo is only 1.3m over Schneiders cap hit. If we trade him and bring back any unwanted salary, then why bother? If we move Schneider, perhaps we can also package Ballard and get back some cheaper players on ELCs.
Essentially, do to other teams what they want to do to us.

Packaging Ballards "salary" would be as stupid as trading Luongo's "salary" as a dump. He's worth what he's getting paid and the market dictates it. Not his fault Vancouver has chosen to keep him in a bottom pairing role.

It's certainly better for the team than dumping Luongo for garbage. He's picked up 2 points for this team already that we probably didn't deserve.

I hope one of our goalies goes at the trade deadline, gotta think that the price will be at its highest, and the drama of a last second deal.
Edit. What is the date for the deadline this year?

In the end he will be gone, Gillis has shown he won't dump him for garbage just to dump him. I doubt he'll bring him back next year (if he stays the entire year here). Time to move on y2k, Luongo's time as our goalie are winding down, enjoy these starts while you can... I know I am.

Sure it is. Play better than the 4 guys ahead of him. Then he wont be a third pairing.

Oh wait. He has never done that.

But hey, he currently looks good with a 22 year old kid who is going to be better than Ballard in 6 months.

Ballard and Tanev have been our best dmen this season.

Only because of the opposition they face. They're playing well but they would never be able to handle the minutes that our Top 4 are playing. We're sheltering that 3rd pairing more than at any time in the past.

He's been better than the top 4 by a long shot this season I'd say.

Sheltered or not, they're still playing better. Bieksa has been embarrassing for almost the entire season.

Are we talking about Tanev or Niedermayer here? He's getting vastly overrated around here. On our depth chart, he's probably our 5th or even 6th best dman. He's just impressive because nothing is expected of him.

I can't wait for Corrado to come. Now he's a dman I'm excited about.

I know there aren't too many others here interested in Drew Shore, but he's been really impressive defensively in Florida this year. Really small sample size, but he leads his team in Corsi so far being miles ahead of the next forward. He's also over 70% in faceoffs since his first game, and 66% overall. His +/- is among the best on his team too, being even when his team is getting outscored at a 2:1 ratio in games he's played.

If we end up dealing with Florida I hope we get this kid back.

That's ridiculous. We're talking about guys who are mostly facing 4th lines with maybe 1-2 shifts against each of the other lines. Meanwhile Bieksa and Co. are facing down the 1st and 2nd lines on a regular basis. This isn't even a contest — Ballard and Tanev would get killed out there if they had to play those minutes.

They're doing the same thing to that 3rd pairing that they did to Hodgson last season, except even more extreme.

I don't know if that's necessarily the case. They're obviously not getting shutdown minutes, but they're facing some decent players (13% of Ballard's 5 on 5 TOI this season has been against Selanne and Ryan, for instance) and getting 50% O-zone starts.

Their Corsi QOC looks like they're playing AHLers, but that's a function of a tiny sample and players' Corsi numbers not matching their abilities yet. Guys like Selanne, Ryan, Tanguay, Iginla, Gagne, Richards, etc. all have pretty bad Corsi ratings compared to their teammates so someone facing them would look like they have easy minutes.

I've got to be honest, it pains me to know Lu is likely gone soon. Will probably have withdrawals and a pang of regret watching him making huge saves on some other team. I think tomorrow's game is a big test, apart from the Keith consideration. We can't be hovering around .500 forever, a win will be big. If Lu stands on his head again i can't wait for all the goalie controversy angles. "Whos the number 1 really?" "Should Canucks hold on to Roberto?" Will management have second guesses? Is it too late now anyways regardless?

Don't get me wrong, I have plenty of faith in Schneids too, but he will be facing a ton of pressure.

In a perfect world, Lou has the run of his career and wins the first Cup for Van before parting ways amicably with the team next season. How ****ing sweet would that be. He seems to be playing with a lot of ease this year so far, last couple games anyways. But it's no surprise really. Far too much blame is put on him for our playoff loss to the Bruins. The fact is Canucks couldn't score. Your goalie can only bail you out for so long.

The rust should be wearing off, it's time to see what this team is made of. Really hoping they prove me right and show up in full force tomorrow.

I give Lou all the credit in the world for how he's handled himself throughout everything. Never complains, always professional and great sense of humour. I'll always be a fan wherever he ends up. (pleeeease not Chicago)
