Gritty point against a team that, for now, is better than we are. I wouldn't necessarily say the Sharks beat us with experience, but it helped.

3 points out of 4 in a back-to-back ain't bad.

Coming back from being down 2-0 on the road in a back-to-back to get a point is impressive as well.

Passes haven't really been connecting lately, but I wonder if that has more to do with the ice in SJ and Glendale as opposed to player error. SJ and Phoenix had issues with it as well.

Gagner owes the Pkers and Dubnyk a drink after his giveaway and bad penalty in OT.

Big point on a back to back against a undefeated team.. this is definitely not the same team as the last few years, it was a solid effort.. can't complain.. even though people on this board would complain if the oilers went the whole season undefeated.

Agreed. The shootout is such a stupid concept anyway. A guy like Handzus goes out there during a game and plays a minimal role but during the shootout he's a dynamo, a superhero. God, I hate shootouts.

Also nice to be 2-1-1 on the road. We were awful on the road last season

Wasn't it Whitney who had tons of time, didn't clear the puck out of the zone in OT, resulting in that huge scramble, which resulted in Gagner getting the penalty?

I still think the NHL has absolutely horrendous reffing and they need to work on ways to fix it. Makes it really frustrating to watch. Some really weak ass calls and horrible missed calls in pretty much every game this season, including tonight. Doesn't have to have a big impact on the outcome of the game to still be horrible reffing.

Hemsky scores at a 35.7% rate who is 2nd to only Horcoff (who is at 50%!).

Great game from the Oilers, honestly probably the best game they've played all year in terms of 60 minutes of hockey.

We out-chanced the Sharks for 2 periods, and after 3 had made it an even match-up. We skated with them, hit with them, and possessed the puck with them. An amazing feat for a team playing without Horcoff, who's often their best forward against this team.

Did I expect a point in this game? Nope. Did I expect us to come back from 2-0 down halfway through the game and tie it to earn a point? Hell no. I was extremely satisfied we were able to get through 60 minutes with a tied game (SJS was playing a helluva game too, not slacking, making it all the more impressive). Surviving OT was just the cherry on top, a testament to our development into a sound team.

What I'd like to highlight are some of the recurrent themes on this team:
-Ryan Whitney is a liability when on the ice. I don't care what the situation is, he's going to be a liability. He's too damn slow to make the necessary quick decisions in his zone, and seems to get victimized 2-3 times a game on Grade-A chances for the opposition, even when up against 4th lines. We need to start minimizing his ES minutes.
-Yakupov needs to play RW. I'm not saying this just because he got an assist on Gagner's goal after streaking down the right side. He just seems so much more comfortable with the puck when he's on that side. This ultimately may result in him playing on the 3rd line or something (or even Hemsky going down to the 3rd), but I think the results at ES will be amazing when this happens

preaching to the choir

I wonder if teams woukd pick up essentially useless players to play minimal minutes and wait for a shootout. Must be some guys with amazing hands stuck at the AHL level

On this consistent of a basis, though?

To be fair, Smid was a beast in OT.

Agreed. Some people are miffed at Gagner for the penalty in OT but that was a brutal call. Period.

Very happy about getting a point, We can thank Dubey for that he was awesome tonight , We are tied for 3rd place and 1st in the NW division. We will only be better if we can figure out how to score more 5 on 5.

Oh and Fistric > Potter

Getting 3/4 points on the road, one of which is against a team with a record like the Sharks is impressive. Last couple of years we would've gotten a zero.

In regards to RNH, I'm shocked at the biased opinions on this board.

1) He's our best shutdown center. There, I said it. He's been facing the opposition's top line every game this year, and with the exception of that 1st game vs SJS has come out on top. He's not cherry-picking like Ebs/Hall are up the ice, and it's reducing the amount of time we're seeing him in the offensive zone. It's a trade-off I'll take considering it's keeping that 2nd line off the ice versus more dangerous opposition

2) Remember when Taylor Hall started last year with 6 points in 13 games and everyone was defending him? Nuge has 5 points in 7 and we're giving him so much flack? Better yet, he's actually winning every head-to-head 60-minute match-up he's playing in every game.

Anything above 30% is pretty good considering most goalies sit around a .750 save % in the SO.

Hemsky is a good shoot out option, always has been. Get a clue.

Nobody is saying we should send Nuge to the minors, most are just making the observation that he looks a little off in the offensive zone. I don't see how anyone could disagree with that if they watched all the games so far.
He is a little off, his defence has been outstanding though.

it was not a bad call. But it was a very GOOD penalty to take and probably earned us a shootout.

Ya people are being way to hard on RNH. He has been a beast in the defensive end.
