PHILLY.COM: Sam Carchidi noted the toll the rising number of injuries has had on the Flyers roster. Carchidi claims the loss of Andrej Meszaros for a month to a shoulder injury hasn’t prompted Flyers management to send an offer sheet to unsigned Montreal Canadiens blueliner P.K. Subban, but that could change if another key defenseman gets hurt. He also wondered if the Flyers scoring woes so far this season might prompt management to make a bold move, perhaps by targeting Anaheim Ducks forward Bobby Ryan.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: The Flyers were rumored to have contacted the Canadiens making inquiries about Subban’s trade status, but Carchidi reported late last week there was no truth to that speculation. The Habs, meanwhile, insist they’re not shopping Subban, so if the Flyers want him, an offer sheet may be their best route, but given their limited cap space even with Chris Pronger on LTIR, that doesn’t seem a likely one. Trading for a scoring forward seems possible, but the asking price for Ryan was reportedly Sean Couturier and Brayden Schenn.

Actually it is. Your inability to understand what matt read and luca sbisa are as players prevents you from understanding that the premise of your post, which read "The Flyers need a mobile puck mover and can't afford to sacrifice the future.", is not applicable to these two players.

"Sbisa is a good skater and plays a nice transition game. "
Being a good skater does not equate to being a mobile puck mover.

"Also he's younger than Read."
Swapping a young player for a younger player doesn't mean you are automatically not sacrificing the future.

So once again, we conclude you just don't get it.

Haven't watched much of the Ducks, so I haven't seen Sbisa play since he left Philly. Is he a puck mover or a stay at home guy? Seems we have conflicting reports in this thread lol.

Terrible for Flyers.

How about Bryz + Luke for Fowler + Hiller
Bryz > Hiller
Fowler > Luke

add picks to even it up.

Note: Yes, this was an absurd proposal to show you how ridiculous yours was.

L.Schenn has greatly improved from last yr and is in fact our best D-man in the early going. So I don't think it's as clear cut as you think. So thats an emphatic no fom the flyers POV IMO.

If we're shipping out the Schenn brothers I rather add more and push for a #1 D-man. Sbisa won't be more then a #3 borderline #2 guy imo and we already have a good #2 in Coburn.

He's a puck mover. I'd still call him a defensive type defenseman, because he hasn't been able to put it together offensively(though, there is still potential on that front), but he's pretty good on the breakout.

I think the error is on your end. You pigeonholed Sbisa into a role that, really, doesn't fit his characteristics or his play style at all. Sbisa is a puck mover, and that is a role he fills in Anaheim.

Now that is a very close proposal! Flyers would probably have to add a little bit but very close in my eyes.

I wouldn't trade Ryan for Couturier, Read and a 2nd, so with Sbisa included as well, this one isn't even remotely close.

Hiller's 3.41 GAA and .868 sv % say different.

Plus it doesn't help that Hiller was the motivation for that U2 song "Vertigo".

Yes, lets use a 4 game sample size. Makes perfect sense.

thanks stats. bryz is easily one of the most overpaid bums in the league, so you guys can enjoy that for the next 12 or however many years.

Even with the vertigo Hiller had a better SV% than Bryzgalov last year. And you appear to be describing Bryzgalov's last several playoff performances with those numbers above. But by all means lets pretend that the first 4 games coming off a lockout define a goaltender.

Replace Sbisa with a mid level prospect and its fair. Or remove him completely. Thats god awful for Anaheim as is.

You are right a team that doesn't spend to the cap surely doesn't need 25 Goal scoring utility players that play all 3 forward positions PK, PP and top 6 minutes all at 900K a year. Don't worry we'll just hang on to him.
