If one was looking for a trade partner, he certainly would be inclined to call the Caps. Mcphee must be getting to a boiling point.

Laich-Smith-Neil

Elite shut down line. We need to key more on team's top lines now with Spezza out and Laich could help with faceoffs in various situations.

Arnott could help too somewhat in that same regard.

The other team to call is the Blue Jackets. There's plenty of history there and everyone is probably available on their club minus Johansen, Johnson and Murray. Maybe Anisimov.

Wiz and Tyutin's contracts are probably less desirable than when they signed them. Dubinsky would be a smart pick up to play center temporarily and switch back to wing.

Wasn't Dubinsky one of the more important pieces in the Nash deal for the BJ's?

I know he's been struggling, but I'm not sure Howsen gives up on him this early.

Who knows with Howsen? I'm thinking if he wants to keep his job, he'll need to commit to a rebuild. There's no quick fix in Columbus. Dubinsky is a nice player but if he can get fair value for him in younger assets he'll move him. Some quality young assets might be enticing. A guy like Puempel or Noesen or even Greening + another asset.

Maybe Greening + Puempel or Noesen but I don't even know about that. Greening is half a month younger than Dubinsky.

I'm saying this because I've NEVER been associated with his brother in any way...

Would absolutely love to get Hanzal.

I highly doubt that Phoenix would be willing to move him.

If Washington wanted prospects, we could put together a nice package for Ove. We could offer them quite the package, plus the luxury of not sending them any salary.

To WSH:

Zibanejad/Silfverberg
Noesen
Stone

To OTT:

Ove

Ovie for a first would be enough (okay maybe +) but really he has no fire left in him. I'm afraid his best years are behind him. Hopefully I'm wrong, he was fun to watch.

That's a bit of an overpayment for Ovechkin right now. I think something like Puempel + another prospect + a 1st-round pick would be sufficient. I think he needs a change of scenery, and playing with two skilled players like Turris and Alfredsson could turn his career around.

No big trades this year.
I'm expecting something big this coming UFA season...

Ya, Backstrom isn't so bad himself. Ovi is washed up. Plus, he might just leave to Russia at any time. Major pass.

I'd easily take Ovie over Zibby/Puempel/Stone. If thats what it takes I say do it.

In terms of Centers I can see Ottawa getting Dubinsky from Columbus for cheap. Hanzal is the best option but he'll cost a pretty penny.

Basically the major peice going the other way would be Zibby and you may as well through Smith/Obrien in there since there wont be room for one of them with a C coming in.

And how long was Carter traded to LA after being acquired?

Bruce Garrioch via twitter: The Senators will have trade options, but will take a week or so for things to shake out.

I almost think the best trade would be for a top 4 D even though we lost our #1 center, having someone who can help control the play from the backend would be the biggest help we could get, especially with Gonch being injured and EK playing almost 30 minutes a night

You can always get you value back for a top 4 defenseman. *

And with the way Paul McLean's system works, everything start with the defense.

* Get a younger top 4 then grade Gonchar at the trade deadline?

Are there still fans unhappy about the Foligno-Methot trade? We would be dressing 4 AHL defensemans without that trade at this moment.

whatever we do needs to be a long term addition to the team as though Spezza and Cowen were never injured.
This is no time to waste assets on decent spare parts.

Tyutin or the Wiz. Add some more offense and just general stability to the D. It'd be somewhat of a cap dump for CLB too so we wouldn't be paying an outrageous amount to get a quality player that we can use now and in 3 or 4 years.
