Most of my co-workers hate the TRADE but I'm all for it. Sure it's a questionable trade but Gay provides an offense night in, night out. A consistent scorer. BC is being pressured by MLSE to win now...

We have absolutely no evidence of that - there's no indication yet of new ownership having any particular agenda for the team (aside from making money). That said, Colangelo may well feel vulnerable given his contract situation, although even there we have no indication yet that the new Board doesn't fully expect to extend him. If anything giving Colangelo the rope to make this trade is an endorsement. In short, we simply don't know.

Definitely not. He's still a excellent player, just not dominating like he did in Orlando. Still probably the best Center in the league, although the gap has closed a bit.

I think it's a decent move, and likely a move for the future as much as right now. Gay is locked up until 2014/2015. Granted he's on a Max contract that alot of people don't think he deserves, but it's worth noting that his presence will likely be pivotal in convincing Lowry to re-sign here after the 13/14 season.

When Gay's contract expires, both Bargnani and Fields will be coming off the books at the same time. That definitely makes re-upping Gay more plausible from a financial stand-point. If the Raps can SOMEHOW convince Gay and Amir to take a modest pay-cut that year, the Raps would be in pretty decent shape to go into 2015/2016 season (Lowry, Ross, Demar, Gay, Amir, Valanciunas, plus two draft prospects)

Who'd come close to it if you don't mind me asking? As in the center position

Well that's a matter of opinion/debate. There's a bunch of guys that are considered to be PF/C hybrid-type players (Monroe, Bosh, Duncan, Garnett)....then there's also quite a few guys that are dominant at some aspects of the game but don't have the all-around game (Lopez, Chandler, Noah). So it basically comes down to how you define the Center-role and what you expect out of the player.

I won't attempt to rank them, and I'll let others comment on this with no argument from me, but I'd sort of list them something like this:

-Howard
-Noah, Duncan, Monroe, Cousins, Gasol
-Horford, Bosh, Lopez

...then there are rising stars like Davis and Vucevic. If Bynum was healthy and if Cousins was mature, then both of them would be considered clear-cut #2 centers. Same if Noah could score more, or if Lopez could defend better, etc.

Basically what I'm getting at is if you did a Fantasy Draft with all of the GM's of the league, Howard would still be the first center taken off the board.....but there'd be a lot less GM's trying to trade up to get him. Plenty of GM's out there would be satisifed with some of the other Centers still on the board.

Do people think this trade makes us a playoff team?

I don't think we will this year, but I definitely think next year we have a solid shot.

Gay will play Sunday.

A lot of people seem to think he's a top 30 player in the league. I'm okay with that. Was never a huge Davis fan, and I've wanted Calderon gone for years. Don't get me wrong, they're both very good players, but the Raptors have other guys who can perform their jobs anyway, so it really isn't a huge loss. They got the best player in the deal, a guy who will walk in and be the best player they've had since Bosh. Borderline franchise level guy. I like the deal.

Agreed, but only if BC can parlay Bargs and our excess small forwards into a solid power forward and backup point guard.

The current roster is terribly unbalanced and our salary structure isn't sustainable at the moment.

Davis is playing out of his mind this season, and was easily the best PF on our roster (well above Bargnani).

I didn't say the Raptors had guys who could do the job just as well (for instance, I really don't think anyone can distribute the ball like Jose), but they have some bigs who can do a fine job. And for all the garbage that people talk about Bargnani, he IS a good player. Of course there is the concern that between him and Gay, no one else will get the ball ever.

But then, I'm living under the impression that Bargnani will be traded sooner rather than later for a different big man. Perhaps a deal to grab Gasol. We'll see what happens. Either way, with the trade that was just made the Raptors are gaining more than they're losing. Hefty price to pay in terms of dollars and assets, but that's what you have to do to get one of the best in the game.

Just for Jokes

===========================================

To Toronto- LaMarcus Aldridge PF/C and Elliot Williams SG

To Portland- Andrea Bargnani PF/C and Demar Derozan SG/SF

Works on Trade Machine

===========================================

PG- Kyle Lowry
SG- Terrance Ross
SF- Rudy Gay
PF- LaMarcus Aldridge
C - Jonas Valancuinas

PG- John Lucas
SG- Elliot Williams
SF- Alan Anderson/Linas Kleiza
PF- Landry Fields/Quincy Acey
C - Amir Johnson/Aaron Gray

The Rotation would probably be

K. Lowry
T. Ross
R. Gay
L. Aldridge
J. Valancuinas
A. Johnson
L. Fields
A. Anderson
J. Lucas

Not bad 9 man rotation, which is mostly what Casey rolls, barring fouls or injuries

me
