Player By Player -- Penalties vs Penalties Drawn

I noticed this year on the box scores that in brackets after the penalty given is the player that drew the penalty. I've compiled penalties taken vs penalties drawn so far this season.

Note: I did not count coincidental penalties, fights, and it should be noted that if an opposing player took a penalty that didn't involve a Senators (ie delay of game, closing hand on puck, too many men) it doesn't count, so the penalties taken vs penalties drawn isn't accurate.

I don't know if this data is already being tracked, but who cares I had fun recording all of this.

Player Penalties Penalties Drawn PD/P*
Marc Methot 4 1 0.25
Chris Phillips 2 1 0.50
Kyle Turris 4 2 0.50
Milan Michalek 2 3 0.67
Daniel Alfredsson 3 1 0.33
Peter Jensen 2 1 0.50
Colin Greening 0 1 INF
Zack Smith 3 2 0.67
Jim O Brien 0 1 INF
Jason Spezza 1 0 0.00
Erik Condra 3 0 0.00
Kaspars Daugavins 0 0 N/A
Chris Neil 5 4 0.80
Jakob Silfverberg 3 2 0.67
Patrick Wiercioch 2 2 1.00
Sergei Gonchar 2 0 0.00
Andre Benoit 1 0 0.00
Erik Karlsson 4 5 1.25
Mark Borowiecki 3 4 1.33
Guillaume Latendresse 2 0 0.00
Mika Zibanejad 0 0 N/A
Craig Anderson 0 2 INF
Ben Bishop 0 0 N/A
TOTALS 45 32 0.71

*Penalties Drawn / Penalties = PD/P

**I will update this as frequently as possible, and also bump the thread so you can see it.

*** By clicking on the table header, you can sort alphabetically, most and least penalties, most and least penalties drawn, and best and worst PD/P.

I think you can find this on behind the net, http://www.behindthenet.ca/nhl_stati...+4+6+7+8+45+46

Ahhh sweet, I had found data on there but only for the 2005-2008 seasons for some reason. Thanks for finding this, I think this stat is actually pretty important even though it hasn't gained popularity. That said, I'm concerned that they are including numbers like Chris Neil fighting someone as a penalty as well as a drawn penalty.

I find it interesting who generates powerplay opportunities for the team. Like you'd expect, it seems that the best are either very skilled, or very pesty.

EDIT 2: I think I might continue to do this, because I really don't like the way they set it up. It seems to be based off PIMS. It says Mark Fistric draws 18.2 penalties per game, which is confusing (and not true).

I like your format, because it better represents power plays a player is giving up and generating, not just number of minutes sitting in a box.

The behindthenet stats are based on per 60 minutes played, which allows you to compare players with different ice times a bit better. And just use the net difference between drawn and taken to get a feel for a player's net impact in terms of powerplays. But the format above is fine, too.

As Dr. Sens mentioned Behind the nets #s are per 60 mins at ES only. So Fistric playing 9.92 ES mins per game would draw about 3 mins (or 1.5) of penalties per game. Their numbers exclude coincidental penalties, so fighting majors would not count, but an instigator could.
