Hokay, friend is coming over to pick me up soon and then we're going to grab some booze.

So I'm not there for the GDT, but we will watch the game (most likely).

Normally if I'm just doing computer to HDD or vice versa, the transfer rate is at a GB per minute. When doing HDD to HDD it is about half that speed because of sharing the motherboard, etc.

This would take ALL day, at least, if I did it the standard 'drag & drop' (whether it's all the files at once or one at a time). Is there a better option than this? Have read about some large transfer programs, but all the somewhat reliable ones seem to be for PC. Do I have to worry about the source HDD getting fried spending so much time working/transferring?
Proably something like this...
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...9SIA1K60EY2208

i am going to use a similar but older model in a couple of weeks to clone a couple of drives.

For a one-time transfer? Just do it overnight.

And the source and destination HDD's should be safe from crashing/frying/overheating?

Guessing it's 50/50 because they kind of earned it with the crap they put up with, and a lot of IT guys have poor social skills

Jumbotron at a Milwaukee Bucks game. It'll be the only source of entertainment that night.

My social skills are fine, but I'm not a developer. I get away with basically telling the developers what to do. It takes a few development cycles for me to even start to respect what a developer has to say, let alone defer a design to them.

The phrase i mentioned earlier nearly came out of my mouth to a business user. They need to do a simple mapping exercise from a list of 70 possible values down to a bucket of 15 values. They are whining and complaining about having to do it, even though they are the only ones that have all of the information possible to actually do it.

Seriously, how hard is it? One user already gave me a fully mapped out document with the statement of "Shoosh about this. I want to sit back and watch the rest of the squirm..."

Hah, speak of the devil, just got a Facebook message from a friend of hers that told me she thinks I might propose soon.

Think I've got an idea.

Well, congrats on thinking about it!

Did mine on the Fourth of July and let the fireworks do most of the work for me. My girl is pretty laid back though and was just excited to finally get the ring, so I didn't really need an elaborate scheme.

Re-enact a scene from Army of Darkness. Done.

Next day, go return the ring, buy more sticks.

Whatever you do, don't opt for the Jumbotron.

That's more than marriage.

if you do get married, might i suggest keeping finances separate? works out great if you're a dual income household. just figure out all the "shared" expenses (insurances, mortgage, utilities, etc) and divide them however you think is fair (if one income is lopsidedly larger, maybe not 50/50) and each pay those bills. eating and groceries etc have never been a problem for whatever reason...Different bank accounts, different un-shared credit cards, car payments, etc. Works great.
