AO might have scored a goal tonight but he looked terrible out there.

How does Oates have a job still?

He's in the same situation Kessel was ~1.5 years ago. He was asked to produce with a 35 point Bozak as his center and Joey Crabb and when he didn't people got mad.

I know Ovie has regressed but come on... he still has it in him to be a PPG player with the skills he possesses.

What was Ovie doing today near the end of the game? Playing duck duck goose around Reimer?

Anyways, he still definitely has value. But some offers in here are ridiculous .... Price ++? I wouldn't trade Price straight up for Ovie.

If prospects were wanted, Ottawa could put together a nice package and give Washington the luxury of not giving back any salary.

At the very least, an Ovechkin trade should be similar to what Columbus got for Nash, if not slightly better.

Wow maybe another season or 2 and he's still not producing then Ovechkin may be touchable. Others will be traded or another coach will be fired before Ovechkin is moved. He's the face of the franchise and Washington can't afford to loose financially the superstar Ovechkin is. He's what help sells Washington.

That said as a Leafs fan id be down to trade the equivalent of 4 first round draft picks for Ovy.

Rielly, Percy, Biggs and 2013 1st round draft pick for Ovechkin. Other teams would sell their farm for a 1st line winger and game changer. A new change of scenery may be the answer but it'll take a long time of failure for Ovy to be traded.

If he were a 1st line game changing winger worth that package then his worth wouldn't be in question in the first place.

As an ACTUAL Montreal fan I ask you to ignore this foolishness. We are not trading Price for Ovechkin, with or without a ++.

Dude, enough with the hatred for Price (I know, I know, you "love him" which is why you want to trade him away in every thread where there are offers). Price is not available. Did you see what happened in Ottawa? Thanks but no thanks. We need Price far more than we need Ovechkin.

Nobody not named palidrom would trade Price for Ovechkin! Ignore his offers when they include Price, please.

Best I can do is:

Ryan
Vatanen
1st round pick
I'm honesty good with either defensemen getting traded. Though if your getting Sbisa I'm making that 1st round pick a second.

If Perry don't sign at the trade deadline.

Perry for Ovi straight up?

Nothing I have seen tops that last Leafs offer. That is a good one, if Washington decides they want to do a rebuild.

I wish Montreal had the type of assets they COULD move to get Ovechkin, but the cost would be the kind of guys we can not afford to move. As stated, Galchenyuk and/or Pacioretty would have to be involved and those are 2 core pieces that are far too valuable and affordable to give up for Ovechkin with that contract.

If Washington was looking more for futures and youth (and it was understood that Subban, Price, Pacioretty and Galchenyuk are not available), how about:

Tinordi (I would hate to lose him), Eller, 2013 1st, David Desharnais.

The Capitals get no salary back, a ton of cap relief and money to spend in free agency this summer, and some great young players to start a partial rebuild around. The key is that 2013 1st, which many think will be a top 10. I don't know what Caps fans will think, but that is what I would offer and see what the reaction was if I heard that youth and picks was wanted.

Of course, if I am Washington, I probably do not want to trade Ovechkin. Also, if I am Washington, I would contact Anaheim and see if they would be interested in a Perry for Ovechkin deal as long as Anaheim lets me talk to Perry about a deal, first.

Overall, I think Washington keeps Ovechkin.

Would not be interested in that cap hit next season. Maybe if the cap goes up quite a bit but I just hate that cap hit, especially with the way he plays.

No thanks, do not want!

it's not ovechkin's contract that is the scare factor

its that he'll have no knees left in 5 years

i dont see him playing a great deal past 30 because of his wreckless play early on

Literally the only team crazy enough to offer anything for Ovechkin's full contract is Toronto. They'd probably give Washington a good deal too knowing the Leafs.

You know i had this discussion with someone over the weekend. If Ovi was on the block and the Caps want to go in a different direction maybe a trade around DiPietro ++ and Ovi might make sense.

Both players have 8 years left on their contracts after this year.

The Caps can buy out DP - pay him 24 million over the next 16 years ( w/o it going against the cap).

Ovi is owed about 80 million over the next 8 years ( Islanders have plenty of cap space plus the islanders lose DP 4.5 million a year salary).

The questions are do the Caps want to trade the face of their franchise, will the Islanders want to pay to make a run at a playoff spot and how much more do the Isles have to add to the trade.

Alex Ovechkin

Is it time that the Caps start thinking about parting ways with their franchise forward? He's declining faster than any player I've ever watched, and the room seems lost in Washington. Are OV's days numbered in DC?

Who can afford to take him? Next year he'll take up about 1/7th of the whole salary cap for the team.
