They must be related to Brad MArchand.

The official rules only refer to the refs, but I would think the linemen could raise their arm and then relay what they saw to one of the refs and let them decide how to proceed.

Joe B is fine. No bias, goes to great lengths to appear neutral (sometimes I wonder if he's really a Caps fan).

Laughlin on the other hand...one of the worst in the league at his job. He'd get more hate than he does already if more people had access to him. Terrible announcer, and, yes, he did try to justify Erskine's elbow.

Rinaldo beats people who don't fight that often. And a lot of them are in irrelevant points in the game. He beat the hell out of Milan Lucic, but the score was 6-0

Simmonds is a tough cookie.

If anything, this will just light a fire under him.

Simmonds is not on the bench for the second period. He did not play any further shifts in the first period after the hit. But thanks for the expert diagnosis, doc.

Simmonds has already fought 2 days after he got stitches on his face from a puck deflecting off of it into the goal. I don't think he really cares.

Wayne Simmonds is a tough kid, I could see him challenging John Erskine. Remember when he fought Deryk Engelland during that line-brawl last season (when he previously got his face hit with a puck).

He could have declined that fight, but he didn't.

Erskine is still playing, Simmonds is out of the game as it stands. Caps elbow someone in the head and gain a major benefit from it.

Well done refs.

Most likely a precautionary measure, and a good one at that.

Horton.

Linesmen have to drop the puck this year! And bad cheap shot by Erskine. Suspended for sure.

No, a linesman can never do that. He can discuss the play with the referee at the next stoppage and convey his opinion, and the ref can then proceed to call the penalty if he so chooses.

It was an elbow and he extended it, but it wasn't like he swung his stick at the guy's head like Malkin did to Staal the other day.

Maybe a game or two but I have seen far worse already this season.

Simmonds isn't back yet on the bench. These refs this season are calling all the weak stuff and missing hits that injure players. Simmonds & Landeskog being 2 examples.

If that doesn't get a suspension, Shanaban is a) a massive homer and b) a joke.

The hit on Landeskog was a good clean hockey hit. This hit on Simmonds is not. The League will give Erskine his suspension and get this right.

Not every hit to the face/head automatically results in a concussion, you know. Don't be such a nancy. Simmonds is a tough cookie. He'll be fine, although he'll probably have a headache for a few hours.

Dumb play, if Erskine didn't elbow Simmons then Simmons would have got a charging penalty. But seriously if Simmons is running at me then I would probably put the elbow out to protect myself.
