And let's be clear, McPhee wouldn't trade Ovehckin without Leonsis's and Patrick's approval and probably wouldn't do it for any of the young guns without at least the obligatory heads up to Leonsis.
They are not at the limit now are they?

For a GMGM firing to have full intended effect it has to be a whole new era in management. A core trade would have greater impact than an internal promotion at the GM position IMO but I'm not sure a core trade does enough to get their attention at this point. Not unless it's Ovechkin.

They'll ride it out and hope that with more games they'll get it and start to click but they've got a lot of areas to improve.

For the first time in a few years and still they're only $6 mil shy and 11th highest in the NHL.

They just didn't spend to replace Semin, but that money will get spent.

They already spent it on the infrastructure for our electronic STH cards, remember?

You put up a good fight, but we came out on top. Our tank is strong.

Say no to Burke. He sucks.
Burke would be great for the Caps.

That description doesn't fit just anyone. Not claiming that it necessarily fits Burke either, but there are likely scores of potential candidates worse than the status quo or Burke.
McPhee has done it. The Caps have certainly been contenders.

You can attempt to debunk all you want. If you're happy "Pulling a Leonsis" and hiring more unproven guys to right a sinking ship, then have at it. Seems futile to go down the exact same path again...

Honestly I don't care, I just want a guy who can craft a real team with chemistry and the right attitude.
It doesn't matter how the Caps have done. What matters is that two teams in the history of the league have won a Cup with a 'proven' Cup winning GM, which is what everyone seems to point to with Burke.

So, what happens as a result of winning a cup that would make it all but impossible for a GM to win another one? Or rather, what qualities did Burke attain after winning a cup that would make it all but impossible for him to assemble another cup-winning team? Does winning a cup anger the hockey gods, or perhaps does a GM who won a cup get blown away by an offer from a terrible team that even they can't turn around, and that affects their ability to win more cups?

I'd say those questions are a bit more relevant than meaningless trivia that doesn't have a place anywhere aside from snapple caps.

Here's another one - the caps have never won a cup. Statistically that says they will never win a cup. Well I guess it's decided then, statistics have spoken, everyone can go home now.
