Went to our first baby B's game on Sunday. We have Bruins season tickets and the wife bought me tickets to the Providence game when they were still on lock out. Went to Bruins opening night Saturday and the Providence game Sunday. Had a blast, loved the fights and almost brawl after the Whale goalie got hit a couple times. Total domination by the Bruins, played most of the game in the Whale zone
Anyway, I'll admit I don't follow the Providence team as well as I should even though I knew most of the names, but my big observation from the day was that Ryan Spooner appeared to be on a whole other level compared to everyone else on the ice. Incredibly fast and beating guys to the puck. Can't wait to see what he can eventually do with the big club too.
I mean from a production perspective, we haven't had a 20 year old play this well in Providence since Marchand. Spooner and Marchand are at opposite ends of the spectrum in playing style; Spooner could win the Lady Byng and Marchand probably took Lady Byng out for a steak dinner and never called her again.
Spooner is developing nicely, right now he’s 14th in AHL rookie scoring, about 4/5 of those players are older and many ahead of Spooner played more games. He is certainly amongst the best rookies in the AHL this year.
Went to the game last night. The team looked good (hard not to when you win 6-1.) Svedberg played very well, couldn't see Portland's goal too well.
Krug scored a couple goals and seemed to be moving/ skating well all night.
I've been to 4 games this season and Tardif has scored in each game. Each time, he's been in a dirty area and last night was no exception. He was in the slot and received a nice pass and buried. Probably the "cleanest" goal I've seen him score.
Max Suave converted on a breakaway, couple little dekes and shot it in, hitting the inside of the post...nice goal.
Spooner was Spooner. He didn't show up on the scoresheet save for one assist, but he moved the puck well most of the night and had some quality chances.
