I seriously lol'd when I saw his breakaway attempt. Just stopped in front of Lundqvist and shot it right over the net... Then I went back into depression with the rest of the game.

Crosby as a history of starting slowly.

We can blame everyone else (Kunitz, no Staal, Letang sucking, PP sucking, etc) all we want, but he doesn't seem to be playing with the fire he usually plays with. It's fairly alarming. Sure, his team isn't as good as it has been, but that's no excuse for a player of his caliber.

EDIT: PP sucking lolololol

Maybe I'm wrong as I haven't re-watched it, but I thought Lundqvist got a piece of Crosby's breakaway with his glove.

pretty much sums up my feelings on him so far. He's had his moments, but he's still nowhere near where he could be. I still have faith it'll come.

Has to suck being a Penguins fan.

Damn, one of the two best players in the world has started slowly.

Oh well, we'll have to contend with the other best player in the world getting us wins for a while.

He has one whole point less through 7 games this season than he had through 7 games when he scored 66 in 41 games.

He had nine goals in his first 20 games including a seven game goalless streak the year he won the Richard.

He gets stronger as the season goes on, always has.

Pretty sure OP is talking about Crosby's performance this season. His amazing numbers from the past only strengthen his argument.

Crosby was playing at a Gretzky/Lemiuex level when he got hurt. He's off to a slow start for sure. I just hope this isn't a sign he isn't the player he used to be. Would be pretty crappy for both Crosby and Ovechkin to become mortal at the same time.

Last season when Crosby came back his ppg was basically the same as before his injury. A lot more assists than goals but similar ppg. I'm pretty certain this is just a slow start

As others have said, Crosby is a slow starter. I think and hope that he'll be fine.

Hockey players are creatures of habit with training, practice, schedule, etc. I feel like it's hard to take alot from a short season like this. As much as I hate Crosby he will be back to tearing it up very soon.

That's true and kind of amazing. I would say he has, in fact, looked like junk. Still a ppg player.

I just said the season where he only played 41 games he started off slowly as well and got better and better. So no, not except for the seasons where he doesn't play the full season.

Only thing I'll say is his goal scoring is down since the concussions. He was scoring at a 43 goal pace averaged out over 82 games throughout his career before the concussions. It was even at a 56 goal pace averaged out over 82 games in the season and a half before his concussions.

Since the concussions it's a 31 goal pace averaged out over 82 games.

Smaller sample size on the latter? No doubt.

Has he altered his game? Is it simply rust? A combination of both?

Time will tell.

There's definitely rust involved; how could there not be? But he's also toned down his presence in the areas where he scored so many goals. You're right in that, even if the concussions are completely behind him, only time will tell if he can build back the confidence/willingness to go to those areas the way he used to.

If he can one day land a scoring winger - which is just as much of a question mark as his health - he at least has a halfway decent pass.

Only crosby can "come down to earth" @ a ppg pace.

He's been involved, and its a matter of time before he gets an even better production rate
