Hoglund was involved in the deal, Dudley has always liked him which is why he got a chance to make the Florida Panthers this year. Apparently that deal falling through was part of why Dudley left Tampa Bay.
If that deal had gone through the Leafs would have been the luckest team in the NHL, basically stealing two #1 pick, franchise players.
Someone on the board, a Lightning fan (forgot who), told me that Hoglund was involved in the package, along with Kaberle and Antropov. Not sure about the 1st, though.
That's right it was Hoglund! Not sure about the first either.
Hmmm...(assuming no first round pick) would that have been a good trade?
*Kaberle a solid offensive top 4 D man lugging 24 minutes a game, 25 years old. 10 more years in him, easy.
* Antropov - as much a wild card then as he is now.
* Hoglund - decent forward, much maligned, somewhat unfairly in my books, basically a throw-in capable of making the Tampa roster at the time.
LaCavalier -- likely who would have become the Toronto Captain after Sundin. Still not finding his consistency yet.
Yup, Toronto would have won that trade, based on the old adage, "all things being equal, the team that gets the best player wins the trade."
