But otherwise, I think he will be an elite talent offensively. The way he can regularily cause chaos and break apart the opposing team's structure in the offensive zone is awesome and is a trait only a few players have.
IMO, he'll be ready next season.

Why didn't MJ trade him this year? Going get nothing for him now, unless he gets cut next year from the Leafs.

pride and joy of the franchise, and if he was expendable they'd be asking for a friggin lot. they got a fortune for edmunson alone.

March 15th is the last game for the Moose Jaw Warriors, assuming they don't make the playoffs. He can then join the Marlies for the last 20 games or so of the AHL regular season and then the playoffs. Hopefully that will get him some great experience and will lead to a 2013-2014 NHL debut.

I'd be very dissapointed if Rielly turns out like Liles, a 2nd pairing ofd. Frankly, I don't see the similarities in playing style either...aside from both being soft defensively.

This is what I'm excited for. I'm wondering if Toronto's management spoke with the owner/GM of Moose Jaw and offered some sort of 'donation' or financial reward for Moose Jaw retaining Rielly so that he can go to the AHL after the junior season ends. Since they won't make the playoffs he'll get plenty of time to get experience for the Marlies and hopefully he'll get to be a major piece of a playoff run. 15-18 regular season games + some additional playoff games would be great experience for Morgan. I hope this is what happens.

Remember Liles was a TINY/THING player coming into the NHL. Rielly is a tank already and his skating would immediately be among the best in the NHL. Liles is his worst-case scenario...

I'm as big a fan of Rielly as almost anyone, but to say the guy is a tank and that Liles is a worst-case scenario is extremely laughable.

Pretty much. There is a few leaf fans who watch him on a regular basis who have a better grip on what Morgan is as a prospect.

I wouldn't say he's a tank, but 6'0, 205lbs is a completely different body type than Liles.

Liles can't skate like Rielly at all. Skating can set players far apart, you know this.

Liles is a really good skater. Rielly maybe more dynamic in his initial strides, but I don't think he's that much higher than Liles in skating. I'd say what sets Rielly apart is his decision-making on the powerplay, on the rush as well as his vision.

Take my opinion with some skepticism with my limited viewings but my opinion is prolly no better than the guy who said he looks like Liles, but one thing I noticed is when Rielly has the puck, even when he is moving full speed, he is thinking about all his options and is dissecting the play. It's like despite the speed he's moving at, the play is going just slow enough for him to make the right decision with the puck, whether its passing for a give and go or taking it up by himself..

Liles hasn't really shown that, atleast not for the past year I've seen him. But skating and getting up in the rush is somewhat similar

Well of course, but that's not even what we're talking about.

And Liles is a well above-average skater. I'm an Avalanche fan and watched him play 7 full seasons.

A worst case scenario is rielly not being able to play in the NHL.. I do think that rielly will become a more impactful player than liles but certainly not a worst case scenario..

Interesting.

If this did not happen they gave up a huge chance to get something for their best asset in quite sometime though.

If I can quote NHL 09, 'He keeps this up, they're going to call him the dishmaster!'

The funny thing is that he'd have much more points this season if his team was better.

Would be great to see him with the Marlies this year

I don't think he can play for the Marlies. Too young?

He can play there when Moose Jaw is done

His last game March 16th if they don't make the playoffs.

He should get between 15 and 18 regular season games and then hopefully a nice playoff run with the Marlies. After that experience he'll likely be ready to suit up for the Leafs next season.
