wow refs suck.....

Simmonds was playing the puck and JE flat out threw an elbow to the face....

A few penalties could have been called there....

So the Backes hit was a 5 minute major and this got nothing?

NHL reffing continues to deteriorate. At this rate we'll be waxing nostalgic about the great reffing days of Mick McGeough.

3-5 games would be sufficient.

Pretty dirty and the refs missed it, LMAO.

Glad Simmonds got back up quickly, he's a tough hombre.

Refs are going to get **** from the NHL for missing a 5 min major like that. I expect 4-5 games for that elbow.

We had really no one in the lineup that could fight. Maybe the next game we play them they dress someone to fight him. I don't really care though. What's done is done, Erskine will probably get a few games for it and that should do.

Even though I despise the Flyers, am very glad Simmonds is OK. He's a tough cookie for sure.

With that said, what a POS move by Erskine. Give him the Shanaban.

How is there no call on that, but a tiny check after a dump-in gets called everytime?

Not a personal statement about the player or the situation at all, but that has to be 4-5 games.

It's just so blatant. Even if a call had been made, you've still got to crack down on this stuff.

They handed out Schenn a 2 game suspension and I was fine with it. Hits directed at the head are disgusting. This, in my opinion, is worse. It's not a misplaced hit, it's a perfectly placed elbow.

Can't believe there was no penalty on the play. Both referees had to have been watching.

Erskine should get 5+ for that blatant elbow, but probably gets 3.

Anton Volchenkov got a 3-game ban for a similar flying elbow.

NHL really needs an off ice official. A guy sitting somewhere in the stands to oversee the game. To have all 4 refs miss this kind of hit is embarrassing. I understand that the game is fast, that player embellish, that making game changing decisions is difficult. But, these are not insurmountable problems. They just need appropriate solutions.

The best part is how the still screwed the Flyers after that with some questionable calls instead trying to make up a horrible missed call.

Lol first the Malkin "tomahawk" and now the Erskine "elbow". When did NHL fans become such a wimpy bunch of nancys? Why don't we just have the players skate around holding hands singing kumbaya and handing out free lollies. Bet all of you would love watching that.

Just don't wanna see a great game ruined by the unprecedented pansification of society.

What's next, are we gonna force the players to wear blouses and play with feather dusters? That seems to be the way things are headed.

Since when the hell were elbows to the face ever acceptable in an NHL game? You must be such a tough guy...

I'm confused. Are you saying that play by Erskine shouldn't be a penalty or a suspension?

If so, it means you feel that play should be allowed in the game?

If so, you won't be watching a good version of the game you claim to be defending from "pansification" because stars will frequently be injured.

I love the physical play and big hits and fights, but there are enough opportunities to hurt your opponent in this sport without having to allow elbows to the face.

I really couldn't agree more. It's not like this play happened down the ice and away from the puck. I can't understand how all the refs look at that and went "hmm nothing to see, here". Baffling. The reffing is getting worse and worse in this league.
