I would trade AV for a coach like Babcock or Q in a heartbeart. Given coaches on the market, however, I'd say swapping him out with somebody else at this point in time would at best be a lateral move. I think the Canucks could use a fresh voice, but let's be honest, what candidates are there right now who are as good as or better than AV? I don't see Babcock or Q getting fired anytime soon (although a lot of us thought Q's job was on the line last season, but look at what he's doing with Chicago now).
Doesn't change the fact using him the playoffs over Ballard was the better move for the team at the time. Ballard came in a looked poor.
Mis-used? Care to explain why Ballard looks so good right now in the same role AV's had him in all along?
Does AV get credit for that, or is it all on Ballard?
I assume your answer is AV gets credit, since you seem to believe he gets the blame for Ballard's poor play prior. Don't think you can have both ways can you.
Ballard is not being used in the same role at all as when he first arrived.
Ballard was not given a proper opportunity to learn the system without ending up in the doghouse(blame AV).Of course given time & opportunity Ballard worked his way out of the doghouse(credit Ballard).
Have to agree with this...
Sedins were on their way, and any coach would of benefited.
What AV should get all the credit in the world for is putting Burrows on that line which created the chemistry that exploded the Twins from PPG players to Art Ross winners. That was a move outta left field when he threw a scrub 3rd liner to play along side the Twins on the 1st line.
Huge kudos for recognizing the potential line working.
The 2 players that benefitted the most from AV's tenure are Burrows & Kesler.
AV deserves some praise, Fantastic call on Luongo playing.
Man luongo is sick this year
Definitely a good call, but was it really that hard? Luongo coming off a shutout and a solid game before that. Anyone can tell that Lui's play has been better than Schneider's.
Don't cha wish your coach is as good as mine. Don't cha?
-Defend the lead after they score the goal, lol.
-No timeout when we're playing sloppy?
-Doesn't put Kassian on the 5 on 3 despite his PP success
Only credit I give him is putting Luongo in net today, but anyone would have. He's been way better than Cory and is coming off a shutout.
Do you have a quote that AV was "defending" the lead?
Or is this your speculation based on you limited knowledge of the game and the fact that its often back and forth in terms of whos controlling the play? Especially against a very good team like the hawks.
It irritates me how little respect some canuck fans give our opponents.
I'm aware, and past precedent is the reason I haven't hit the panic button so far.
If we had lost game #1 vs. Anaheim by say, one goal, the atmosphere in the Canucks forum would be a lot more relaxed, I think. We'd all be more optimistic about our chances.

What? This is typical AV. AV has always defended the lead, even in his first season in 06-07.
The year we went to the finals we didn't really take our foot off the pedal and look how that worked for us. We destroyed teams and just coasted.
AV. What did I like about him so much that year? Defending the lead wasn't the main priority after 1 goal. It was to keep going and add a 2-3 goal cushion and then coast/defend lead.
