He uses the same style on all his guys. It doesn't work for certain ones, as this team's been turned over 3-4 times now. I feel like the style here isn't best-fit for this group. But hopefully it changes.

You can't make chicken soup with chicken shyte. I'd say the roster has a lot to do with the overall results.

Our defense is either bad or badly coached.
What friggin' coach doesn't "lean heavily" on their starting goaltender? ..

It's not Ruffs fault Enroth has a ****** 5-hole.

A very good coach but it seems like the ownership/management in Buffalo think of him as the NHL's Bill Cowher. Stick with him long enough and he'll eventually deliver a championship.

He seems a little stubborn, set in his ways how coaches get when they've been in the same place a while and have that job security. He's a good coach for sure, but these things build over time, I've seen it, press guys get on someone's case, people think the grass is greener. It isn't always greener, sometimes it's better to stick with what you've got.

So not being anti or pro Ruff I noticed this in this thread ...

The vast majority of fans of other teams (besides Sabres) think he's a good or great coach. But every single one of those fans are ignorant, uninformed and clueless. According to detractors.

The Ruff detractors are intelligent, informed, and correct. And these detractors vigorously debate (the ones who think he's good) trying to convince them to change their minds. Even resorting to snide comments and backhanded insults.

The ones who think Ruff is good, couldn't care less about trying to convince the detractors.

Interesting ...

I blame the defense-MEN.

Ehrhoff has played well. Sulzer has played well. Weber has played well Sekera has been ok. Regher has been so-so.

Myers, Leopold and Brennen have been crap.

We can go further into it and talk about how the forwards have sucked in their own zone too.

I don't blame Ruff or his system for Marchand blowing by Myers or for Leo allowing everybody to skate right by him. I don't blame Ruff when the players hand the puck over to the opposing team or when they're allowed to take 3 or 4 swipes at the puck in front of Miller.

These are just bone-headed mental mistakes and epic piles of suck being spewed by the players themselves.

Being a Malmö Redhawks supporter i kinda like the consistancy that Buffalo has but something need to be done. I believe that they actually should sack Darcy instead and see if we get a change.

If I'm the owner of the Sabres, I'd say his time has passed and I'd find someone else.

As a Sabres fan, he's a good coach that grinds down players. He is about winning the game above style points, more than anything. His usage of Grigerenko is an example. You would think that, with a young rookie like this, Ruff would start giving him ice time, especially since we are taking him away from his Jr team where he'd play 20 minutes a night. Instead, he's playing 10 minutes and in limited situations.

He plays favorites. Quite a bit. He has zero use for skilled players that, in his opinion, don't listen. Vanek is a perfect example of this. He's been the leading scorer of the team for YEARS and, up until this year, its been Ruff's way or the high way with vanek. He'd score 40 goals average 16-17 minutes of ice time. Whereas Derek Roy, who would make the same if not more mistakes, would get played in every situation.

His method DOES seem to extract alot out of players. Many players put up points here they were never able to reproduce elsewhere. However, part of that is because the GM rarely trades players who are still producing effectively.

However, part of the problem with having a coach for 15 years is that the fans just get tired of the same style, same press conferences. Over analysis of his style, how he treats players, becomes part of the discussion. If a new coach were to come in and coach the EXACT same way, fans would hail him as a warrior genius simply because his name is not Lindy Ruff.

Wild STH. After all this time, why is he still around? Nothing against him personally, but its all about winning the Cup.

I see him as a great coach from down here in Tampa.. That run you guys put together a few years back at the beginning of the 06-07 season was one of the best EVER. I don't remember the exact specifics of it but I do remember being totally enamored with your team and how Ruff was running it.

Vanek is forcing Ruff to play him more this season with his offense. Last year he was a criminal 111th among forwards in ice time. That alone should earn him a pink slip.

Good coach, as most have said, but these days he's a non-factor. He needs a change of scenery.
