And here I was thinking someone created a thread in the last 10 minutes and it blew up before I saw any of it. Despite that not being the case... totally worth it.

Funny how much love there is for Clarkson again. Most of the offseason was.

"Clarkson should be traded, no way he get's close to 30 again"

It's not impossible, but I agree. Clarkson is looking like a legit top-6 forward now, even more so than last season. He's like Crosby in that he finds a way to improve his game every offseason, except he started much much worse than Crosby.

There's no chance he takes that unless he gives Lou a HUGE discount. I'm guessing he'll re-sign with NJ for around $5 mil per year, but it depends on the length

We can pencil Clarkie for 20+ per season, plus he can beat down pretty much anyone sans couple of heavyweighters and skates with energy and emotions any given night. So $5M per would be earned, imo.
Yeah they are not in the same category, but emotionally, I'd be hit much, much worse, if Clarkie left, than when Puck Farise packed his bags.

And - epic bump!

I love Clarkson but this is going to end either with him taking a cap friendly home town discount ltd or going Holik and signing way overpriced deal with the Rangers or wherever Brian Burke ends up.

This is not a Parise situation. I was never confident in Zach staying, but I've never been as confident in a player staying with the team as I am with Clarkson. Lou will probably give Clarke a nice raise and he'll gladly accept.

I'm glad I was wrong about Clarkson never scoring 30. Nice bump ILIVM.

Also, Kypreos can still suck it.

Haha, I'll eat some crow here too. And pay up if I'm the one that was on the other side of that bet.

Clarkie's far exceeded my expectations and grown into his contract. To his credit he made his game better. Must have worked on his skating. He used to skate bowlegged, like he just took a dump in his pants, and get knocked off the puck easily. He has better form and is stronger. And the frequency of clarkarounds has decreased substantially.

He still takes too many low percentage, non-rebound generating shots, and I wish he would cut the incessant whining about everything to the officials, although that gymnastic backflip in front of the goal trying to draw a trip the other night provided some entertainment.

Overall, a huge positive for the team and an amazing turnaround for a career that could have ended in total obscurity.

No way he should be given 5 though. The math just doesn't work.

Feel the same way as long as he gets a fair offer (and if he continues he will, he is the type of player Lou loves). He was a undrafted UFA, so he is a guy who wanted be here from the beginning. We know he loves the coach and the system where he is having success under. Unless he seriously gets lowballed my guess is he will re-sign. It is more an Andy Greene situation than Parise.

I don't think Clarkson is going to sign a fair deal. He's either going to be massively underpaid, or massively overpaid. Him and Lou are buds, so it's all a matter of who is being the generous side.

Either way, I guarantee he's back here.
