No one mentioned 1977 yet? The best player by far, and I mean by FAR was Bernie Federko. The rest were just flat out awful. The first 6 picks in the NHL were busts or at least were guys who didn't play anywhere near their potential. How about some other names you've never heard? Bruce Baker. Mark Suzor. Clayton Pachal. Fred Williams. Awful, awful draft. Has one controversial HHOFer in there and nothing left but junk.
Federko is 1976 but yeah that's a weird one.

The second round (Randy Carlyle, Brian Sutter, Reed Larson, Greg Malone) is probably better than the first round that year, which had very little beyond Federko - only he and Rick Green played more than 500 NHL games. Even the 4th round that year (Mike Liut, Kent Nilsson, Ken Morrow) had more high-end talent.

1976 is also, like 1985, a year where the top talent saw their careers decimated by injury. Green, Sharpley, Cloutier, and Gardner were all seriously injury-affected and Don Murdoch threw his highly promising career away partying.

Either way, 1976 is still definitely better than 1975.

I dunno how many draft years give the awards Ovechkin and Malkin have combined for?

So no.
