He made a great pass to gain the zone last night on the PP resulting in a goal. I think people need to stop looking at everything through a magnifying glass. Whits still has a great first pass.
Keep in mind with Fistric he was playing his offside, to me he's clearly better on the left.
Saw two good stretch passes by Whitney playing his left side against the Avs. Fistric doesn't use his stick and pass the puck so I'd let Whitney play his strong side and hope he can continue those stretch passes.
I know they will go with whitney-who ever hot. But IMO I would like to see Fistic-peckham/whitney Potter waived. I hope coach K has the stones to sit Whitney and Smyth ever second game or so until they show more speed and heart to their games
Now that peckam is activated, is coach going to revolve potter fistric and peckam? play 1 sit for 2? Oilers need to make a move. I would like to keep all 3 for depth but this would have been way easier if potter was signed to a two way deal
Whitney then Peckham then a can of tuna then Potter.
Whitney has some ability deep down there if he can dredge it up, Peckham I'd like to at least see if he can play like he did 2 years ago. Pecks should be coming into his prime right now and he's probably the most physically imposing of all players on the team... they need more of that in the lineup. I want him to get a shot here to see what he can do.
A can of tuna can possibly confuse the opponents and create a momentary diversion thinking it's the puck so it has some use... Potter... I got nothing.
Whitney was the worst player on the ice again today.
People need to start watching how he is playing right now and forget how good he was.
He still has a decent pass but he doesn't move his legs enough to be in the propoer position to use it.
Whitney is the new Gilbert. People for some reason are in love with the guy so they put the blinders up and ignore his turn overs and general piss poor play.
Potter isnt great either but he sure has hell played a $%^& ton better than Whitney has this year.
What about seeing a game with Peckham and Fistric both in the lineup? Put Petry on the no 2 pp unit.
Whitney has become a player who can sit from time to time. His injury has really taken him from all-star calliber defenseman to no.6/7 material. He's not in the long term plans. Get a look at Pecks and Fistric who are at least likely to be here as no 6/7 guys at reasonable money.
At least we will see 4M in cap space freed up from Whitney this summer. Maybe Klefbom will be able to step in?

I don't how Fistric is benched against a team like Colorado, who's small forwards he could intimidate out of the building.
Whitney is done, he can't push off and accelerate anymore. Anytime someone cuts on him, he either has to let him go or take a penalty. He doesn't even look good on the PP, I'd prefer Petry there for his shot there.

This made me laugh pretty loudly in my school cafeteria.
Someone mentioned if you asked non-oiler fans the choice would be Whitney hands down. Someone should post a poll in the main boards just so those of us who chose potter can read the tremendous landslide that Whitney would garner.
I'm disappointed to learn that It's potter and fistric tonight. If you're gunna sit Whitney, at least give Peckham a chance if he's healthy. Fistric/Peckham would be frightening - for the opposition, but also us for the clever-quick players out there. I'd still give it a shot before fistric-potter though. Blah, hope they prove me wrong
If Ralph Krueger is benching 4 mill in salaray, aka Ryan Pylon Whitney, this game over Potter, I am guessing he has noticed that Whitney has been the key ingrediant for the poor showing of the bottom pairing.
It takes a lot of guts to bench a player making that kind of coin. Nice work.
As bad as Whitney has been playing, I am quite nervous to see him out of the line up and Potter in. Are any of Klefbom, Marincin or Musil even close to start playing with the big club? Haven't really kept tabs. Marincin played quite well with Shultz tho in OKC. Great size too, just too bad he's under 200lbs

Agreed. It portrays Whitney in a very poor light and yet...frankly...he deserves it.
The best thing we can hope for right now is...this decision strikes a chord in Whitney and he owns up to the OBVIOUS need for him to suck up/buck up and start playing the game like the big dollar veteran/full grown man he is supposed to be.
He's got NO excuses. He's had enough time to rehab any injuries long ago. Its 90% between his ears/in his heart.
As for Potter going in...I remember a pretty good start to the season last year. His confidence dipped only after he started to get over-played.
Potter has proven he can do the job as a 3rd pairing guy. All we need is determined but simple hockey from him.
Hard to be believe thats all that was asked of Whitney and he failed to provide...but...this is where we are at.
Kudo's to Krueger for stepping in right away and sending the right message.
Honestly huge kudos to coach K for recognizing the problem and doing something about it. He needed to make a change with Fistric, he did so. He needed movement from Whitney, so he benched him. Perfect coaching so far. Used Belanger in the best situations and look at how solid he's been for us. He's also pushing Gags to be a better player. Putting him in the shootout first, is huge for Gags. Real confidence from his coach.
