Colorado Shopping A Defenceman for a Forward

Two rumors piggy-backing off each other

That leaves Ryan O'Reilly. As of Monday night (when I wrote this), there didn't seem to be any movement between him and Colorado. With him unsigned, Steve Downie out for the season and Gabriel Landeskog in an uncertain position, it's believed the Avalanche are trying to add a forward. Ideally, that guy would be O'Reilly.

And it's believed the Avs are trying to deal one of their eight defensemen to make that happen. Shane O'Brien is a likely candidate, but it could be anyone really, save for Erik Johnson.
I still think D'Agostini makes a lot of sense for Colorado, as St. Louis has somewhat of a logjam at forward.

I like D'Agostini, but my understanding is that he is a UFA at the end of the season.

Colorado's defenseman (save O'Byrne) are all signed for multiple year deals at low dollar values.

I am not sure how that is going to affect the value analysis.

Would imagine that IF Avs can move a defenseman right now it would have to be for a 3rd or 4th line winger who may have enough Offensive skills to fill in on top two lines. Think EJ, Wilson, and Hejda would be off the table). Doubt the Avs are looking to move any of the 3 centers yet in a big package for a Defensive player unless its a young currently top 4 eventually top 2 type.

Avs would love this as a 1 to 1 trade I think. At least I do!

I would think that is pretty bad for the Islanders.

Josh bailey is close to returning and the NYI would be wise to deal him for a defenseman

Jones is also out. So we're missing 4 top 6/9 forwards.

I'd like Tedenby personally, but there's nothing to suggest he's actually available.

Done! No takebacks!

That is a terrible deal for the NYI... this coming from an Avs fan.

Makes sense. LAK are down a blueliner so a depth addition can't hurt unless they have bigger plans.

Not really.Isles are in a youth movement. Trading 24 yr old KO for 34 yr old Hejda, is the opposite of Snow sticking to his youth movement.

Vis has told the press that he'll be in LI Weds.
Isles will show KO, a core player on a dirt cheap contract, the same patience that they've shown 25 yr old Grabner, a core player on a dirt cheap contract, who's off to a great start.

Toronto

I know people on here bash him allot, but Tim Connoly would be a good cheap fit.
1) He is a C as is ROR and can play a decent two way game.
2) He has already passed through waivers so when ROR is signed he can be put in the minors without any trouble.
3) The leafs are in a good position to eat some salary as he is costing the Leafs 900k less than his salary against the cap anyway.
4) His contract is up at the end of the year so no long term effects.

Toronto sends:
Tim Connoly, eat part of his salary, lets say 1 million so he has a cap his of 3.25 or 3

Colorado sends: a pick which is contingent on how many games he plays and/or points he scores.

O'Brien and a pick for Loktionov. But I think if the Kings make a move it for a long term solution.

KO's been a slow starter every yr on LI. 3 pts in 7 games this season.

Snow will be aware of that and aware that 24 yr old KO makes a team friendly $2m this season, $3m next season.

Get back to Snow when either A) a younger, cheaper forward takes KO's spot or B) Okposo starts making bigger bucks in 2014-2015.

Although I like Connoly, we're not going to move a pick for a 40 game band-aid, on a year that won't lead to playoffs in Avs land anyways. Rather just trade SOB straight up for Connoly.

You mean 7 games? Even if you want him gone, why would you decide to trade him now when his value is at its lowest, and for a guy we don't need?

Just screams "panic move".

Yeah im thinking nothing big just like a 4th rounder that can move to a third, or Connoly and a third for your second. Something along those lines.

Connoly + a pick

for

Colorados pick that is one round better.

I still think D'Agostini makes a lot of sense for Colorado, as St. Louis has somewhat of a logjam at forward.
D'Agostino could be traded but I really don't see any Avs defenseman that would upgrade over what the Blues already have. So I am not really sure what pieces would make the trade make sense for the Blues as depth in case injuries occur by just keeping him might be more important then anything we would receive.
