Nik Antropov + Ron Hainsey at Trade Deadline

Nik Antropov and Ron Hainsey are both UFAs at seasons end. Both of these players play a shutdown type role at their respective positions. I'm wondering what teams would offer at the trade deadline for these two.

I'm guessing mid to late picks. 3rd rounder for Hainsey... 4th or so for Nik?
Hainsey is worth keeping if he's willing to sign for a reasonable amount.

If we got a 2nd and a 3rd for Oduya last year, I sure as hell hope we can get more than a 3rd for Hainsey and a 4th for Antropov.

Hopefully we're in a position where we can't trade either, but the last 3 games were very depressing.

This. And with the defense market being what it is, there will most likely be inflated prices at the deadline.

Could Antropov+Ponikarovsky be a package deal?

IMO yes. If the Jets are out of it, any expiring UFA that won't be re-signed (due to lack of interest on either side) should be shopped and shipped.

There are several players of some value that may fit in that category:

Hainsey
Antropov
Ponikarovsky
Wellwood

to name a few.

What would the Devils offer for Antro and Poni?

As a Jets fan I'd like to see Antro back next year as long as the money is reasonable. He's extremely versatile and is a good guy to have on our young team.

Tallinder or Volchenkov and a 3rd? Or Tedenby?

Antropov for something from Colorado? We'd love to ship out one of our defensemen not named Johnson or Wilson, though WPG might not need such a thing.

Honestly I don't know his value, so I could be totally wrong, and maybe it would just take a pick.

Volchenkov has a skillset that we are sorely lacking but his contract is a little scary for a shutdown guy given that we're already paying Buff and Enstrom north of $5m and have to re-up Bogo this summer. That's a lot of money tied up on D.

Not much interest in Tedenby. Chevy's plan seems to be to get bigger up front.

Edmonton would probably be interested in both.

Would give a 3rd and maybe a prospect for Antropov.

I like Tallinder, but if we're talking Antro and Poni, I'd probably rather do it for picks and just try to re-sign Hainsey.

The Jets currently have one 1st, three 2nds, and two 3rds in the upcoming draft (along with their 4th through 7th round picks). Hopefully Chevy can add more picks and really get into the wheel-and-deal mode at the draft, either to trade up or land a player. Something along the lines of the year that Columbus traded Foote for another 1st rounder and then flipped it for Umberger at the draft. Not that we have anyone who would be worth a 1st on their own, but you get the picture.

Of course all this is predicated on the condition that we are out of it at the deadline.

Would Antro and Poni as a package land your 1st? Maybe throw in a mid-prospect or mid-pick going your way?

Landing another 1st in the 23 - 30 range would be golden. Would give the team so much flexibility to make a deal or take a chance on an appealing prospect they might not otherwise.

NYR has interest in rentals so Poni, Antro, Hainsey fit the bill.........wont offer many players.......maybe Rupp, Bickel, Eminger, Gilroy.......Rangers have many 3rd rounders so offer that for sure for a descent rental

0+0=?

More seriously, their value is about a 3rd IMO, maybe Antropov can fetch a 2nd.

0+0=0 but that seems irrelevant when you admitted yourself that Antro can maybe fetch a 2nd.

Given the likely demand for defensemen, I'd be shocked if Hainsey didn't hold more value than Antropov at the deadline. He's averaging almost 24 minutes a game and is +1 on a team that is struggling big time.

With the Kovalchuk penalty, we won't be trading our first.

We'd be willing to offer Tallinder, some of our above-average defensive prospects, and any pick that isn't a 1st. You can pick from that array.

Jon Merrill and it's a done deal.

But seriously, I'm not sure what combination would get it done. Tallinder at 34 doesn't really fit the development stage of the team. Personally, I'd rather explore the picks/prospects angle.

Would any fans from Vancouver be interested in Antropov for futures? The Canucks were my #1 team and I know how AV tends to really make players "Earn their stripes" (ie: Schroeder come playoff time) Malholtra is still somewhat useful but he isn't a top notch 3rd line center since his eye injury. Center depth seemed to be one of Vancouver's weaknesses in the loss to LA last post-season. Antropov certainly doesn't add to their speed on the 3rd line, but he is sound positionally and can play center or wing, top six or bottom six.

This. People get all hung up on the $4.5 contract, but he's really a solid puck moving 2nd (maybe bottom on a really solid team) pairing D.

IMO, Antropov won't be moved (I'd even go as far as to say he will probably be re-signed), but Hainsey's days are numbered with the emergence of Paul Postma and Zach Redmond.
