I doubt it. Risebrough will probably want some room to bring someone in next March if the team gels and we need a role player. The only player I see coming in would be someone like Mike Sillinger. We need a face-off man who can produce a little. Sillinger would be a significant upgrade from Marc Chouinard.

No chance. We have to be done; there's no more money left. According to what I read last night, our payroll sits at about $39.5 million right now. By the time we sign Gaborik, we'll be at $42 million if we're lucky. The cap is $44. We have nothing left for any more free agents.

I think we'll end up right around 39 after signing Gaborik. I'm not sure where your numbers came from, so maybe I'm wrong, but I recall that the budget was to be at around 36 million this season including Gabby, which gave us about 6 to spend on free agents. We spent more than that, which puts us up at 39. I think that's a good number, and wouldn't want to spend much more at this time.

Ah, here's where I saw it:
http://www.startribune.com/1330/story/527429.html
"The Wild plans to have a payroll near $36 million (the salary cap's midpoint) next season, an $11 million spike from last season.

The team has $21.7 million committed to 12 players, but after signing Gaborik and the other five restricted free agents, it'll be at about $30 million. That gives Risebrough about $6 million to play with."

Oh, and here's one from today:
http://www.startribune.com/1330/story/528785.html
"The Wild, which had the league's lowest payroll last season at $25 million, will have a payroll at nearly $39 million ($5 million lower than the salary cap ceiling) after Marian Gaborik and the other five restricted free agents re-sign."

From what I've been able to find, the Strib's numbers don't include the qualifying offers we've made to our RFAs. Talon on the Wild board (a forum I can't stand, but Talon's a credible poster), has broken it down and the numbers I'm referencing are his. I haven't checked his figures in detail myself, but the checking I have done seems to support his conclusion. I hope I'm wrong, because I'm not comfortable spending right up to within a couple million of the hard cap. But at this point, he sounds like he's right.

I would imagine someone gets traded before we sign someone else, outside of the RFA's we have

We've got qual offers to Burns ($877,800) Boogaard ($495,000) Dupuis ($798,000) Koivu ($900,900) Harding ($620,000). TSN lists our salary at just under 30. 30 + quals is about 34. Maybe Talon's including guys who won't be on the pro roster??

Just realized TSN + quals + gabby = 20 players, so that might be part of it.

(Btw, rumor on the Bruins board says Gaborik and Wild have reached a 5 year deal.. for 35... Just a rumor. Same rumor also says Wild are close with Palffy who's coming back, so... just a rumor. )

Plus add another 2 mill or so for a bunch of no namers for the farm team... or after reading the thing from Austin Icebats, is I think Houston's roster will be made up of Texas Wildcatter players, Icebat players as well as minnesota wild prospects

Congrats on your guy's signings and trades. I know Minny fan's are pretty hard-core and they deserve to see a competitive team being iced. Your future is definately looking bright and once again, the Northwest division looks like it will be a powerhouse next season.

Can't wait to see our 8 match-up's.
Signed, An Oiler's Fan.
