Duchene is more of play-maker than people give him credit for IMO. what was it? 27 goals 40 assists in his second season?

I do think his last season made people question him using his linemates and his defensive responsibility, but those skills were there in his first two seasons and his all around game was something he was known for when drafted.

Hes brought back his playmaking ability, and defensive responsibility as far as I'm concerned. Not exactly 'found' it if you know what I mean. He has improved in these areas but him being billed as a 'sniper' by people came from the way he played last season and not much else.

Hey guys just got back from the game.

A few thoughts:

Atmosphere from the fabs was pretty good, not great. But pretty good.

Varlamov played awesome, he made a few big saves and once again gave us a chance to win the game which is great!

Duchene was FLYING today...and was in my opinion the best player on the ice (on both teams). Glad to see him pick up some points! He's earned em.

The O'Byrne - Zanon pairing should only be used on the PK. Those two together on the PK is great because they're both willing to sacrifice the body to block shots but I thought they were our weakest defensive pairing 5 on 5 today.

Great to see McGinn score...maybe this'll get him going? Also good to see Stastny score again (even it was an EN).

Johnson was once again our best defensive player. He is so big and rough in our own zone that he breaks almost everything along the boards (which is something I think our other defensive players lack at times) and while he didn't get any points today I thought his offensive play was pretty good too. He had a couple of HUGE bombs in the 1st periods. I'd like to see him use that booming shot of his a lot more.

I may take some heat for this but I don't think Sgarbossa is quite ready for the NHL yet. He made some good plays today, but he also made a few bad ones...I think a full season in the AHL would help him more than playing 3rd line minutes up here.

OVERALL a GREAT game though!

Lets keep em going!

Duchene shot a puck a fraction of a second late at the empty net. And Yakupov took exception to this and skated over to Duchene and kind of gave him a little spear and a half hearted face wash. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black.

McCleod came over and Yakupov ran away like a little girl, then the two teams got into a little scuffle. Nothing major it was just pathetic that Yakupov of all people took exception to a player trying to score and it came a fraction late.

I think the shot was a couple seconds late, if you look at the clock. But it was actually before the horn. Johnie Hornblower was late, and was at fault for the "late shot".

Well you missed:
1. Us getting not screwed by the Refs and got some PPs
2. McGinn didn't hit the post
3. Staz was able to locate and shoot the puck into an empty net.

It kinda looked like McGinn's did graze the post. Real close, if not.
(or maybe I just had too much to drink --- coffee, that is...)

Well my stream didn't exactly have HD quality so I can't comment on that.

At least the shot went in, so his aim is getting better.

Nice win for you guys today.

What's up with PA? Where the hell was this goal scoring ability on LI? Good for him though.

Haha, nice ones.

How's his chemistry with Duchene? According to the stats, it looks like it's working out so far.

Any word on Landeskog? It's too bad about the concussion, you have to be so careful with them. Hopefully he's back soon, I've always had a bit of a man crush on him.

Duchene and PAP are working out well, but we pretty much assumed they would. Duchene needs wingers that are strong playmakers and that have the patience and skill to hang on to the puck for a moment while he finds a seam.

Good to hear. PA is quite adept at entering the offensive zone which should free up time and space for Duchene and Landeskog (when he's back). Okposo hasn't been up to snuff so far (he is the whipping boy now) and talk about PA's loss is starting to creep up over on the Isles board.

It's funny because I hated Parenteau his first season. His marked improvement last year won me over. I can't help root for the guy still. His goal total is definitely surprising because he's always been pass first.

Parenteau's ability to hit Duchene in stride in the neutral zone and allow Duchene to carry the puck into the zone on the rush has been big for Duchene, and one of the reasons why Duchene is doing so well.

Duchene's offensive strength is coming in on the rush, and generating offense or drawing a penalty with his speed.

Duchene hasn't had someone who could do this since Flash. Not to mention Duchene has really kicked it up a gear in every zone, and stopped spinning around and turning it over every shift.

We won.
Wilson was hurt and didn't return after 2nd period.
Leg injury, which looked like something with the ankle when he fell cause he stepped on Hejda's stick.

Duchene has been beasting lately. don't think we'll get him for 3.5 mil next time. hopefully he can put together a top tier season and showcase the improvements he's made.

This is exactly why I hated his celebrations (more the first one, 2nd one wasn't anything).. it's one thing if another player does that.. but seeing this guy in the JRs and in interviews you could tell he was a ******, and here's a pretty big example.

The Oilers web crew is not taking this loss very well.
They still only have the Yakupov goal as available on their website.
(or then I'm completely lost on their site and can't find the other goals)
