I want the best forwards we can get, not the best value we can get. And I really want two of them if possible. Though I wouldn't sell the farm twice; if that makes sense.
Well, who are you targeting then? I just don't understand the Martin trade value thing, apparently. I think Hemsky (and I've thought this for at least 3 years), is the perfect winger for Crosby. And we're not getting Perry. Even if we were, they're not taking salary for him.

How is Hemsky the perfect winger for Crosby, Doc?

I would personally say a big guy to create space would be the best fit for Sid, or a guy who has a quick release shot like Neal. Not a pure playmaker who has a fear of shooting.

Martin, kennedy and a first/maata to Dallas for eriksson? ;-) he would be the perfect winger for Crosby!

I really don't know who I'm targeting. I'm just saying I'd rather get a better winger at a higher price than a worse winger at a cheaper price.

I just love the playmaker aspect that Hemsky brings. I think that would free up space and opportunities for Sid. Sure, if we could get a big-bodied PF for the line it'd be great, but when Sid was scoring 50 goals, he was getting opportunities to get his shot off. I like him carrying the puck and distributing from behind the net, but on the rush, I like a guy that can carry and skate his way.

it started with

Engelland's role on this team is worth more than Morrow's or Bortuzzo's at this current time. Engo is our team fighter and after him there isn't many more people that will drop the gloves, and against teams like the Flyers, we'll need him out there. The only thing I have against Engo is his puck handling skills, but other than that we need him more than people realize.
if they weren't still talking about fighting, then you're right.

I will always believe that Setoguchi would explode offensively here.

Fair enough. If that cost is Martin, then I'm out. I'd rather get whatever top-6 guy we can get for, say, Morrow and a 1st.

I will never not believe that. He's my dream reasonable acquisition. Been clamoring for him since he was in SJ.

Sorry if I'm blowing this thread up. Haven't posted in a while and I'm feeling itchy.

Crosby's 120 point season he play with Recchi & Armstrong, maybe Ekman as well I think.

Won the cup with Guerin & Kunitz. Maybe we just need to get him an aging vet.

I wouldn't mind Hemsky. I just don't think he's enough.

I really, really, REALLY like Nisky. It's going to upset me if he wears another uniform, just like it's still pissing me off that Srait is with the Isles.

Unless Shero gets floored by an offer, you hold on. Nisky's one of those guys who can be a clear #4, while underwhelming enough that I don't see any scenario where his salary ever goes past 3m or 3.25m. These are the guys you hold on to.

I'm honestly conflicted here. I'd be willing to tread water this year and not give up anything (unless it's Martin, who's been great) and go for a winger in FA while making due with what we have.

Was anyone watching the Carolina game? 'Canes were trailing and had the extra man on, and J. Staal wasn't on the ice. Yikes...

Recchi was still good at that time though.

Eklund, yeah I know, had something comparing MSP to Naslund. People giving up on a really talented player who is still young because of the mass of talent in front of him.

I just can't get behind this. I really don't think we can win a cup without at least one wing upgrade.

Yeah, it's a one and done IMO against any proper defensive team without a serious wing uprade.

Geno has proven he can be largely shutdown with a #1 defensive unit against him. And unless Sid has the talent to capitalize on the lesser matchups, we're ****ed.

Oh, I don't like it either, but I'll add a few caveats...

The winger we get is an established one, not a "Hey, I just need a change of scenery" type

He's already signed to a relatively long term deal of 2+ years and if not, he's an RFA with no leverage.

**** it, how's this? I don't want to get rid of Nisky for a rental.

Agreed.

Would you do Niskanen+D prospect for Stewart?

It's obvious there is a big hole on that second line. One good player we could line up with Sid we could drop Kunitz back down with that line. Two & we could drop Dupuis back to where he belongs in the bottom six.

That said teams just aren't willing to give up players. It's going to be very hard to find one good winger out there & out bid teams for him. Two would be near impossible. There just isn't that type of talent available.

No, because he's another headcase that could go south at the drop of a hat.

Besides, I don't think St.Louis has any right to ask for anything more than a draft choice for him at this point in time. If he continues to score and goes back on a 1 goal every 2 games or so pace, I guess you revisit it. But right now, it wouldn't be worth it.

People have scoffed at the idea because they think the Jets wouldn't get rid of him, but Wheeler is the PERFECT option. Jets badly need defense and they're not exactly stocked on the farm.
