Valteri Filppula?

Inspired by a post in the Leafs forum, I'm wondering what kind of return Red Wings fans would want for Filppula at the deadline this year. I am a fan, and he could give our top line some two-way play that it needs. Also gives us a really solid top nine.

Glad I could be an inspiration

I suggested something around Franson + Bozak for Flip + a 3rd .. Gives Detroit some help on defense from their injuries and a suitable replacement centre ... Cap hits add up to almost be even, all players are FA's at the end of the season

I honestly don't see KH moving Filp unless it's in a package deal for a bonafide Top 2/4 D-man.

Unless Franson has a big year and finishes out the year injury free, I dont think that he would be the key to get this deal done. I Agree it would be a big, shutdown D with a right-handed shot, not saying a #1 but a proven guy. Holland is the key to this anyways, so he wont be traded unless its a massive overpayment. Filp has been really good for the last few games with Pascha so no way he gets moved.

Edit: Just as I finished writing...I thought "we all think Kenny won't trade Val...next up on NHL.com...Filp for Kaberle and they extend Kaberle for 3 yrs with an NMC"...

Not even close. Filppula can play against the best talent in the league. We will resign him so he's not on the market anyways.

Something like Flip + Nyquist for Giordano + Stempniak + Nemisz/Butler

Yeah, let's trade our top prospect and a great winger for Giordano, Stempniak and 3rd liners.

For Filppula and Nyquist, I'd expect a Subban in return. Nyquist is nothing to shrug at, tied for 4th in AHL scoring while logging top line minutes in Grand Rapids.

Flip is a UFA at the end of the season Gio probably has more value than Flip. Nyquist is a good player but he is already 23 its not like he dominating the AHL at 19.

That's asking a bit much since Flip is an upcoming UFA.

Flip to Toronto? Honestly I don't think we're great trading partners. Unless, of course, Flip+ for Phaneuf was on the table.

Jeez the offers for Filppula here have been pretty bad.

Guys on the Canucks Board were talking about about Edler for Filp+ when Eddie was still an upcoming UFA. (Not that I was in favor of it)

My guess it is would have to be a deal that fills a specific need (RH Top 4 D-man) or else it's not happening.

I think Detroit plans on keeping Flip unless someone makes an offer they can't refuse, i.e. HUGE OVERPAYMENT.

Flip is a guy that steps up big time when you need him most. He's always a positive factor on the ice, when he is not scoring he is still contributing in many other ways. He's the type of guy that helps your team win championships.
