Its nice that others are finally realizing that Phil Kessel will make more of a contribution to this team via a TRADE.

Nah, just more haters coming out to rub salt in the wound. A young PPG player entering his prime ain't good enough for some fans, and they have the patience to wait until a prospect becomes a PPG player? By that standard, Seguin is a bust after his rookie year, and let me tell you what, Seguin ain't having a good year either, so go to the Bruins' board and tell them to trade him.

Given his lack of conditioning - I believe its only a matter of time before Kessel is injured - hip flexer will be my guess. 4 Goals on the season for Jason Kessel

Nobody is suggesting you can't trade Kessel for proven commodities that could step in and fill the void immediately - Nobody really even cares about Hamilton/Sequin anymore. Its a new ERA - what better way to kick things off then to turn Phil and his Negative Value - into something positive?

Negative value, are you kidding me? What has Glenn Healy been feeding you?

What are you looking for when you trade Kessel? A young #1 c or proven #1 goalie, right? Which team could spare you those? And who is going to fill the void of a scoring winger when you trade Kessel?

(I heard that LA has a Bernier, why don't you go check out how he fared tonight against the Ducks).

Ok cool - so lets rebuild around Phil Kessel instead - I'll forget the fact we just did that for 4 years and have literally gotten nowhere. But I'll pretend it didn't happen and we can start over. Hurray!

Phil needs a PWF to play with - is it Lupul ? I doubt it - but lets just say he is for the sake of I don't give a **** either way - he's still going to need a Centre right? Of course Bozak - its always Bozaks fault that Phil doesn't produce - so how are you going to get a Centre - Trade for one? That makes little sense - can't afford to give up assets at this stage of the game so I don't know lets cross our fingers and hope a miracle UFA will rescue us and join the team for free - Highly unlikely right? Ok Well better yet lets just tank and draft one next year - yeah that will be good.

So we enter another season with the same problems that have plagued us for years. No team Toughness - No goaltending - No Defence - but we got that guy who can score 30 goals (Well he used to score 30 goals now he's a playmaker! or Now he's a pawn to draw the other teams top defenders! I can't keep track anymore) So we'll be ok

Rinse ande ****ing repeat.

No but seriously, what team will trade us a #1 C for phil?

at best we could get a #2 C(Ryan o reilly for example) MAYBE a goalie(but seriously, why would anyone trade their #1 Goalie for a winger, it's not like many #1 goalies are even touchable in a trade right now.)

you'd be looking at a #2 C and a top 4 d-man for kessel, plus maybe a late first, that's at best unless there is a player really wanting out of their team around the time of the trade.

it's a sideways move to trade him, you wont be getting an immediate help for the team.

Nobody is trading a 1C or 1G or 1D for Phil Kessel thats for sure.

He still holds value - to who I don't know.

Schneider
Kassian/Gaunce
1st
3rd

Have been offered from from Vancouver fans (not that that means much)

If Schneider alone could help improve our GA's/SVP it would represent a considerable goal differential - which translates significantly to our record.

If Kassian could pot 20 goals and play a better defensive game - making us a more difficult top6 to play against in the process - we'd already be much more competitive than with just Phil Kessel

Adding another 1st Round pick in a deep draft would be gravy
A 3rd is another piece of the puzzle that could be packaged into anything we desire.

I don't know if these particular players are the answer - I'd just like the discussion to shift from PHIL IS THE BEST WE CAN'T TRADE HIM WE'LL BE DOOMED - to maybe after 4 years of horrible results its time to start thinking differently.

He will put a few in the net, but don't expect much.

I would move Kessel at the draft for a top 3 pick if possible.

Nothing to do with Kessel's slow start this season, but it is time to trade him.

He is not a part of the future of this team, nor is he a franchise player. Burke failed to see this.

Problem is, he won't get a great return. Not nearly what Leafs fans think. Might be hard pressed to get a top 10 1st round pick in this upcoming deep draft.

There is no need to trade Phil Kessel. For Phil to succeed, he's going to need complimentary players around him for support. He hasn't been able to be that guy, that can carry the team. That being said, I have no problem finding room for a player that can score 30 goals in a season.

And for the people saying that the Leafs should trade Kessel for a #1 centre.... Then what are they going to do? They will have noone to play with him. Lupul is good, but nowhere near the natural goal scorer that Kessel is. JVR is having a solid start, but is better suited on the 2nd line (IMO). So that leaves the #1 centreman in the same situation that the Leafs face now.

If the Leafs are to make a deal, then they should do it from their strength. Their top 4 defensive prospects are: Morgan Rielly, Stuart Percy, Matt Finn & Jesse Blacker and also have Jake Gardiner... you have to think about losing one or 2 of those guys.
