I think they were mocking them. In what sense, I am not sure.

Giants and Niners in the same year.........

They were just having mini riots because of the Giants a few months ago I cannot fathom what will happen if the Niners won.

since we're doing :foodchat:, here's my lineup

a nice spanish rioja
shortribs with pancetta, carrot, onion and shallot (oral sex without the risk of vd)
red pepper and mushroom risotto (question for the internet: should i make it saffron red pepper and mushroom risotto; i am worried the saffron will overwhelm the shortribs)
carrots, celery sticks, hummus + tahine

i was thinking something like yoghurt for dessert but there's still time to figure this out

We'll go with 'whatever.' That fits.

It's not you, it's me. Don't worry.

As a Viking fan, Super Bowls are just cruel. As a Massachusetts resident, I'm just bitter and jealous.

I suppose if I had to choose, I'd say SF because I'd like to see Moss get a ring, and I detest all things Ray Lewis. But I gotta say, I haven't been less excited about a Super Bowl in a long time.

Plus I'm sick, so I can't even enjoy SB snacks.

There's always Puppy Bowl.

I am so not into the Superbowl this year, I purposely made a non-football food menu. Even when the Pats aren't in it I love Superbowl Sunday and making all the snacks and hosting or going to a party. This year, just don't have a care in the world about it.

DP, I think saffron would be too much. Although I'm impressed you cook with saffron...it's one of the ingredients that intimidates the **** out of me.

You ever drop a turkey breast in that crock pot? Insanely simple and dee-lish.

I haven't but have heard good things about it.

I'm doing the stew on the stovetop. I browned the meat, sauteed the onion and then deglazed with some red wine. I like doing beef stew on the stove instead of the crockpot....you can develop the flavors a lot better.

agree, beef stew is so underrated but really its great and dependable, and the crusty bread just makes it. If Patrice Bergeron was a food he might be beef stew

not sure what type of dessert goes with it but I hope you have something good

i dunno how many of you read the classical

in light of the sport being played tonight that is ARE COUNTRY writ large, you should all read this article

http://theclassical.org/articles/zombieland

that hockey is likely doing the same thing to its players (save for the goalies... maybe) has lead me to some uncomfortable places, namely regarding the interaction of culture and sport and pain et cirque and the human wreckage that results from all of this

still, ARR YOU READY FOR SOME FOOOTBAWWW

Another partner in suffering.

While I won't call them cursed on the level of the Chicago Cubs, it certainly isn't easy being a Purple fan. People really don't believe that I physically couldn't speak the entire day following the '09 NFCCG.

So yes, Puppy Bowl FTW. Its easier on my soul. I've got my money on Gunther, the puppy from Charlestown, to take home MVP honors.

Its a good article and should continue to be researched and better helmets should be developed. With that said it still seems we are dealing with the exception rather than the rule, right?

Once they lost to Atlanta in the NFC title game in Jan 99 I resigned myself to the fact I would never live to see a SB title. The 09 one was one last Brett Favre troll job on us.

Please tell me someone else is watching this Puppy Bowl thing on animal planet. Literally the most adorable thing I've ever watched.

Would anyone happen to know a decent place to get double pedestal computer desks? New or gently used?

Need 2 of them one for the Bride and one for my daughter. Hopefully in central mass. Or metro west?

My oldest boy suffered a serious concussion playing high school lacrosse. Was knocked out cold and taken to UMass med Crt out here. To our shock the brain scans showed this was actually his second. The first was never diagnosed but did coincide with a period of clinical depression he experienced.

Anyway his career is over. No contact sports for him ever again. Tough thing for a 19 year old to rationalize. They (as we did) think of themselves as indestructible .

For the Bride and myself, we are relieved. Seeing him glass eyed and unresponsive and then weeks after of migraines and nausea is something we hope to never see again.

read the BU article, it's well beyond exception and into majority

granted, sample size, etc, and something to be researched, clearly, but the current stats are horrifying

our love of sport is killing people
