Good to hear that about Cannata. Really seems like a very promising goaltending prospect. Wonder if he might actually have more potential than Lack or if this is just a bit of a hot streak for him.

Funny how guys who've been less hyped - Andersson, Cannata - are doing better in their 1st season already compared to Connauton and Rodin who were much more heralded when they joined the farm.

Small sample size but Cannata's stats are ridiculously good so far.

It is odd that for the amount of high-round busts we've had (Sauve, and now it looks like Rodin) that we still have a decent prospect cupboard thanks to some shrewd low-round picks like Andersson and Corrado, some good FA signings in Tanev and Lack, and non-off-the-board 1st rounders in Hodgson (who begat Kassian), Schroeder and Gaunce.

Less hyped? I have been on record somewhere on these boards saying Cannata will be our #1 in a few years. This was in the summer btw. Big believer in this kid

Lol. Not sure what your definition of hype is, but it's usually more than a few people saying the same thing.

Here's the pat on the back you were looking for though.

Well to be fair, he was getting Hobey Baker consideration (nominated?) both of the last two sessions so its not like he came out of nowhere.

It's strange indeed, but it also seems like they're implementing different strategies in the earlier rounds (2-4) compared to later on (particularly 5 and 6). We consistently seem to have a few late-round gems - wonder what's up with that.

Wolves trailing 1 - 0 after the first

Lineup

Haydar Gordon Sweatt

DesBiens Schneider Miller

Archibald Kattelus Davies

DiDiomete Freisen Rodin

DiDiomete is a bit of psycho. Player that bashed Anthony's head into the ice last year.

Vandermeer Matheson

Andersson Joslin

Connauton Hunt

Wolves got plenty of chances. Kattelus had several great chances but pretty much screwed them up. Also Sweatt and Joslin with great chances

Schneider again outstanding on the PK but not so much 5 on 5.

Gordon has gone off the boil. Was great for the last month but looks like he isn't sustaining it.

Goal against came when Haydar and Connauton screwed up.

Good interview with Folingo b/w periods. Cited Andersson, Gordon, Cannata as stepping up. Also spoke about the excellent leadership of Haydar and the vast improvement in the PK. When you look at it these guys have done a decent job in patching things together given the injuries.

I'm ashamed that the Wolves actually have a gutless puke like Didiomete on their team.

Wolves just can't buy a goal. Chance after chance. Allen always plays like an all star against the Wolves. Made some unbelievable saves. That combined by with a lack of finish with players like Kattelus and Schneider. At least they are getting chances

Cannata can only be faulted on one goal but even here the Peoria player made a great shot. However, he gets himself into problems by over-handling the puck and trying to make long outlet passes. Remember last year that he did this in college. So competitive that he tries to make plays from the goalie position to help the offense.

Rodin is a total write off. He can't play. Too bad but time to move on. Also more brainless hockey by Connauton. At this point time to put him in the PB and bring back Polosek

Really impressed with Archibald. His skating is getting better and better and he is banging people around. He is a prospect. Also Sweatt playing well.

Terrible call by the ref leads to PP goal by Peoria - then an empty net goal

End 5 to 3 but Wolves deserved a better fate

Good game by Sweatt, Archibald, Joslin, Matheson, Kattelus, Miller.

Vandermeer made some very poor turnovers. Haydar made some very bad plays that really hurt

Any input on Andersson and Cannata, orcatown? Thanks for the insight, as always.

Cannata wasn't as sharp as usual. Actually made some good saves but could have been stronger on some of the goals.

Frist ended up with a player breaking in from the side and cutting across the in front of the net. Cannata came with him and the player was able to tuck it back over Cannata's shoulder Nice offensive move and the player was wide open. Bad up ice play by Haydar led to the 2 on 1

Second came as Cannata tried to pass the puck up to Haydar druing a PP. Haydar got wrong footed on the pass and clumsily gave it up. Led to a scramble in the goal mouth with the Admiral player banging it across the crease for an easy tap in. Felt like Cannata was too aggressive in firing the puck up to Haydar (let your team do the work) had a chance to glove puck and hold it. However, not an easy play.

3rd the player broke home free down the slot and beat Cannata to the glove side. Might have been down early but very good shot

Last was a point shot and Cannata totally screened. Maybe needed to work a little harder in seeing around the screen but that's probably looking to find fault.

Throughout the game Cannata made a number of very good saves. Mostly looked solid. The goals against were mainly good ones. Good on the 5 on 3's and during the many PK situations

However, Cannata needs improvement in some areas. He needs to settle down in the areas of moving the puck and batting at it around his crease. Sometimes he creates good offense by moving the puck so much but often seems out of sync with teammates and sometimes just bats the puck into trouble. Also needs to work harder at seeing through screens and seeing them develop.

His progress to date has been very good. But he is being pushed at this level. One big improvement is his ability to not over-slide the play. Is not getting drawn off to one side or the other and is staying much more central in his net. This players is probably 2 or 3 years away.

Andersson played another solid game. Just keeps it simple and keeps end tidy. Good anticipation and positioning allow him to make it easy on for himself. Moreover his passing from his own end is excellent. Little doubt he is the best defender on the team. Also, little doubt that Andersson will have a long, steady NHL career. (think Tallinder or the like). Although you will probably see him up and down some before he settles in.

In this game he showed off that he does have a very powerful shot from the point. It is something you like to see him exploit more by moving into scoring areas. Right now he appears reluctant to do that as defense is his main focus. Likely defense will always be Andersson focus.

Thanks for this. Andersson might even make a good candidate for the PP as Connauton's offense seems to have virtually disappeared. Heck, I don't even know who the pointmen on the PP units are anymore - Hunt, KC, Joslin and Matheson? Might be worth giving him a try there to improve his all-around game - good shot and makes good decisions with the puck.

As for Cannata, do you see any changes in the way he's playing compared to last year? Wondering if our goalie coach has been working with him.

Is it time to move KCon to forward? The top 5/6 D on the nucks seems fairly set, good pipeline of d prospects with Corrado and co in the minors/college, plenty of cheap 6/7/8s about. Last year he looked like he might have a chance at the NHL as a Dman, I'm not so sure now. Otoh our winger options aren't good outside of Jensen and there should be spots opening over the next few years.

Should have been done two years ago.

Has been obvious from his first year pro that he was simply a trainwreck defensively and never ever going to be able to play defense at the NHL level.

Now he's 23 and nothing but a bad AHL defender.

Has the toolbox to think he might be able to carve out a niche up front - shot, decent size, some grit, OK skater going forward - but who knows. Would have been nice if the last 2 years had been spent on the conversion, and would have been a lot more likely to be successful.

As it is he's a total bust. Shouldn't be re-signed unless it's to play forward.
